Default Question about the ASA app. process/phone screen

Hi

I got a call today from ASA for the phone screening. Everything seemed to go well, and they asked me what my availability is like. Told them I'm available anytime. However, I was not offered an interview over the phone.

Do they always offer the interview during the phone screening, or do they sometimes get back? Just concerned that I didn't get the interview, and I wouldn't know why, since they called me. ASA is my first choice.

When I spoke to the recruiter over the phone at ASA, he invited me to the interview after he was finished asking questions. This was about a month and a half ago. Got the packet in the mail a few days later with my ticket to ATL, hotel info and stuff to fill out. I dont know if they are doing it any differently, but all the phone screens I've had in the past have given interview dates over the phone during the screen. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response.

I wonder if it has to do with me living in the west coast. I actually would prefer ATL because I have family moving there, and I actually like the area, and have a place to stay there.

I'm going to call tomorrow to follow up on the phone call and see if they have any more questions, and let them know that I am really looking forward to hearing from them and working for them in Atlanta.

One of my fellow instructors got hired at ASA back in February, and we live on the west coast. Of course, that's when they had the LAX base open, so he kind of got screwed.

It depends on who interviewed you. I was with someone who got the phone call about an hour before me and got offered the interview, and then I got the call and he said "I'll forward the information along." I thought I was rejected at first, but I got a call about 2 hours later from the same guy who did the phone interview for the person I was with.

I wouldnt think you living on the west coast would have anything to do with it. Regardless where you live you are still expected to show up for work when scheduled. Plus, there are lots of crash pads in ATL. Follow up and see, I guess it wouldn't hurt. By the way, what are your flight times?? Im curious if maybe that has something to do with it.

About 700/100.

A friend of mine whose been at ASA for a few years told me that he knows of some guys getting interviews at the call, and some later, becaues they're trying to fill the classes with higher time guys first, then come back to the lower time guys like me. If I don't hear by next week I'll follow up.

I met them at ATL job fair in May, they said get 500TT eventhough I ahd 100 multi. I went from 430 to 470 then resent my resume, they called an hour later and had remembered me from the fair and asked a few ?s and said theyd send me the packet and asked when I could Interview. I got the stuff, filled it out, went to the airport and didnt get on any flights since it was 4th of July weekend and all teh flights to ATL were full (all they give you is an S3 Standby). I called and told them and they apologized and said they had a feeling it d be tough to get standyby BOS--ATL on 4th of July Weekend. So they rescheduled me for July 30 and 31st. Im just studying more and getting ready. I even got my ATP written done int h meantime as well. Good luck, Im sure they will give you an interview, they need people bad.

Newbies,

I can't confirm this, but I heard a rumor that it is our interns doing the phone interviews. IF that is true, they are going off of a script of questions and I would think are not given much latitude in evaluating you. If you want to improve your chances do the following:

1. log time. Experience is king

2. Get a job, fly anything for anyone. The difference between a guy with just his ratings and somebody who is flight instructing, flew checks, site seeing, banners, whatever, is night and day. There is something about someone who has earned a paycheck as a pilot and as a 10 year captain I can spot the difference by the end of the first leg.

3. Twin time. Truth be told I don't agree with this one. VMC demo's in a jet aren't something you're going to do everyday (or ever) I'd rather have a 1,000 hour Caravan captain, but they don't ask me, and they seem to really value the twin time.

4. Don't expect anything. The people that will do the real hiring and instruction if you get the job, all had thousands of hours when they got hired here. I guarantee "damn lucky" is in the back of their minds, and if you come across like you've "paid your dues" with your 400 hour resume, you will not be received well.

Good luck
