We all want to make money and want better QOL! What would you do if you were given these options: Ground school instructor, Sim instructor or just being a line holder where you fly a lot? What's the best option (considering pay, QOL)?

some really enjoy the line, personally, for more time @ home, possibly better pay, and more weekends off, i wouldn't have a qualm the first about being an instructor...preferably in the sim as opposed to ground school, really enjoyed teaching when i was a CFI, think i could enjoy that again.

i would prefer to be a line pilot any day. i have a lot of days off this month and there is no way i could get them working in the sim or as a ground instructor. so if you like the mon-fri job then be a ground instructor. if you want to make pretty good money but work crazy hours be a sim instructor. if you want the most time off and build flight time be a line pilot.

yeh, we all know there are crazy flight slots...but i don't think my instructor was working more than an 8-9 hour day...how many times have you seen yourself work more than that as a line pilot...i know i sure have.

the only thing about being a sim instructor is the hours are even worse than line holders. our sims run 20 hours a day. some guys fly from 10 to 2 at night with an hour brief before and after, so you don't even leave the place till 3 in the morning. and they work sat and sun. ground instructors work m-f 8-5.

If it comes down to money, how much money are we talking about? More than a line holder?

so yeah the money is considerable. you get your flight pay for every hour you work, and i don't believe there is a limit on how much you can work, so lets say you work 40 hours a week, 160 a month. 160 x 65 = 10400 a month, not to shabby.

Yea sim would be ok so long as you had an out in life. They make around 80K and go home everyday. However with things the way they are right now some of them pull worse hours than a junior reserve guy and they are salary so when the company ask you to pull two sims in a day instead of one you don't see the benifit. However at flight safety it really seemed like everyone there had a great attitude and like their jobs.
