Default Are the Backpacks Really that Bad?

I got one of those nice swiss gear computer backpacks when i got my new laptop and haven't chosen to take it with me on trips. I'm starting to see more and more major guys with them (not southwest) and getting the feeling that there not all the bad. I know its not the norm to carry around a backpack with you but its not like i'm going to be wearing it on my back. Thoughts...?

I have been using a computer backpack since just about day one. Makes it so much easier for other items you carry as well. Perfect for your NDB if you are a part of the program.

Cheers

We were warned by a chief one of the first weeks of training that pilots are professional, and he better not see us with a backpack... We are not students anymore......

Just don't wear it on your back, they hook nicely to telescoping handle of the rollerboards.

I have one to carry my camera and laptop, I just don't wear it on my back.

You can put your hair gel and iPod in there, too!

well I actually saw an FO wearing a backpack on his back a few days ago.. I thought it was just a myth but apparently it's real! it looked unbelievably retarded. BUT if you're attaching it to your roll aboard.. it may not look as bad...?...

Based on your profile, I wouldn't use it. FILs have been issued by the company regarding the (non-) use of backpacks.

I guess their passengers don't mind though eh? It's not like they are in the light of public or anything either. I wish that I could carry a backpack though. It makes things so much easier. But I did find a great laptop bag by Brenthaven that has that strap on the back for the sliding handle on the roller board. It's working out great too!
