Colgan Maint...
#1
Hey, going down there to interview next week and I have heard good things about Colgan but just today I heard from a former Colgan pilot that their Maintenance was a bit scary. I have heard there is a lot of pressure to fly broken planes and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. I definitly do not want to go out there and get killed. ( I do know about the accident in HYA back in 03' and the causes) other than that is there any more info out there anyone can help me with.
Thanks
Chris

I know people that flew there a few years back. I didn't remember hearing anything positive. Out of the people I knew there- non stayed. A few years back they were offering pay for training for Saabs and 1900s for 16grand. They ended up having a bunch of people buy the training and end up on reserve forever. I heard so long- they ended up leaving for one reason or another. Keep in mind this is a few years back.
I'm not the guru by any means but- I would be extremely careful in what commuter you decide to fly for. There a lot of shady one out there. There's gotta be a pretty interesting reason the mins are 600TT and 100ME. That is very low compared to the typical 1000TT and 200ME. (maybe lower time guys are just happy to have the job?)
One thing that comes to mind is attrition. Ususally when ya see low mins a lot of rats are jumping ship. Why? A perfect example is pinacalle. My advice would be talk to those who work there. If your not at the comapny HQ- you'll usually get the scoop.
Make sure you interview at more then one place. I've heard good things about Air Wisconsin, PSA and ASA. I'd Give them a shot before Colgan.

Hey ERJ,
My friend flys for Colgan. Yes, they did have trouble with maint. a few years back, but everything is smoothed out. Maint. is locked up tighter then a prom queens dress - if you follow. They treat their pilots well from what my buddy says. The reason they are losing a lot of their senior people is due to the hiring agreement they have with Continental Main Line - and to my knowledge, the senior guys/gals are not leaving on bad terms. Need anything else - just ask
