To be honest with you my time at ASA has been short so far. I just passed my check ride last night. Picked up my wings today, have orientation on Monday and possibly my first trip on the 16 (will know more by Monday).
My thoughts so far. I love this place, yeah it has its pros and cons but the guys that I have met here so far have been some of the best guys I have met since college. All the captains I have met/talked to are great.
It will be a good time I promise you will be happy even if the upgrade time isn't as fast at Mesa :-)

The first thing I read about Mesa was their profile about 12-18 months ago in the Airline Pilot Careers Magazine. The article cast a real positive light on the company. I mentioned that in a post over on APTAP a while back and I was quickly directed to this forum.
While people complain about every regional (except Horizon, no one seems to say anything bad about them) you will see most of the complaints countered by someones positive experiences. However, with the numerous Mesa threads and (seemingly or literally) thousands of posts about them it is next to impossible to find any positive or uplifiting comments that would make me want to work for them.
For the vast majority of pilots out there the regionals are just a stepping stone to a bigger and better paying airline; my takeaway from the Mesa threads on this forum is that you can combine the worst qualities of every other regional to try and create the ugliest company to work for and it would still be a better place to work at then Mesa.
Someone try and convince me otherwise. Do your own research and form your own opinion. Just my 2cents.

mohaupt, I have only been on the forum for a short time, but know my fair share about the industry. It is my opinion that QOL, work rules, and compensation suck across the board at the regionals and with that said the regionals serve only one purpose of breeding major airline pilots. If anyone actually plans to make a career at a regional I feel sorry for them. So, therefore, the only thing that matters to me when it comes to regionals is how fast I can get my time and get out. I've heard horror stories about them all. But Mesa pilots appear to be moving on to a real job just like pilots from the other regionals.

Not really. Some are much better than others. Especially with things such as pay, treatment of crew members, crew training and equipment. There really is quite a spectrum of company pros and cons.

ONE GOOD Reason. . . .
MESA only pays their pilots Average Block. Let me explain.
Most Pilots get paid from the time the MCD (Main Cabin Door) closes to the time it opens. EXCEPT at MESA.
Scenario: MESA boards pilots at small town, USA, it's :30 from ORD. They taxi out to the end of the runway and the controller tells MESA that ORD has a ground stop for weather and to expect a 2 hour delay. MESA pilots would only get paid for :30 , although they sat at the end of the runway for 2 hours.
At other regional airlines, the pilots would get paid 2:30 for the :30 flight.
How to translate into a paycheck if you are earning $20/hr.
MESA: $10
OTHER AIRLINES: $50 (500% more)
In my opinion, MESA is "NOT" the airline of choice to work for, now or ever. In fact, UAL is trying to tear up their feeder contract the best they can. With all the service stipulations that UAL has placed on MESA, it will be SOON, that MESA will no longer be flying for UAL.
