Hey PhoenixFlood,

I remember reading your story on here when I was in training or shortly after.....just saw it pop up again on page 1. Little did I know that same guy is a computer genius who kept my MC from having a reformatting meltdown last week ;)

Nightsky 09-15-2008 02:55 PM

First time I've run across this thread. Inspiring to say the least. Wishing you and your family much success. You are an inspiration - rather than give up and wallow in misery, you fought for your dream. Thanks for sharing.

Mabee201 09-15-2008 03:13 PM

logan, it has been a pure joy to see the progress you have made...from the questions and concerns you had on the 'new hire' section of rp.org, to sitting in the right seat of a 170, flying passengers all over the country. i'm thrilled that aopa is recognizing your achievements.

your story is truly remarkable. thank you for sharing it with us...

boilerpilot 09-15-2008 03:57 PM

Absolutely incredible. I remember reading this thread when it was originally running, and truly could not be any happier knowing that your dedication, determination, and passion allowed you to realize your dreams in such a wonderful way. If I ever see you passing by in an airport, as a respected equal and colleague, I will certainly extend my congratulations and respect to you.

I'm glad AOPA picked up on this story in a time where the airline industry manages to discourage so many of its followers and participants. You are truly an inspiration to both the aviation community and, more importantly, your son.

flynavyj 09-15-2008 04:25 PM

excellent article. I can remember reading this thread way back when, i'm glad that you saw things through to completion. It's an amazing an inspirational story to say the least.

Also glad you got to be instructed by Mr. Cupp, he did a short stint as chief instructor at my university, and I had the privilege of him doing at least one stage check....remember him saying "That was real slick". Sure you heard much of the same, congrats!!!

Cycle Pilot 09-15-2008 05:02 PM

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I'm at a loss of words... We all have obstacles we work to overcome to fulfill our dreams, but you just took it to a whole new level. Congratulations! You deserve it!

UnlimitedAkro 09-15-2008 05:12 PM

hey Logan...

I remember reading your story more than a year ago when you first came here asking us for our opinion. Congratulations on everything you have done. Your story and personality are very inspirational. Best of luck to you.

IHateMgmt 09-16-2008 06:30 AM

Awe inspiring article, Logan. I've also been silently pulling for you since this thread was first posted. Just wanted to say thanks for doing what you're doing and keep up the good work!

Way2Broke 09-17-2008 12:07 AM

You sir, are a inspiration. My brother is a left leg amputee from a birth defect, and I have watched the struggles it caused him on occasion in life. I have a great deal of respect for you because I have seen first hand the affects a disability can have on one's life. It appears to me that you are far from disabled, and if anything the accident enabled you to do something that I am sure most of us would not even have considered. To see your passion for flying, your dedication to not being held back because of a misfortune, wow man wow! You are certainly a hero of mine. Words can't express how amazing I think your story is. I can't wait to one day hear about you getting your getting that 4th bar back, like in your picture from the article.

viper548 09-17-2008 04:19 AM

Have you ever thought about being a motivational speaker? It would be a nice way to suppliment FO pay

If I came across that, and if it was hard for you, then upon landing I will definitly have to swap hands on landing. Right hand on yoke for cross wind correction while my left hand brings on the reversers.

First, I applaud your courage and resolve. That truly is a horrible accident.

The reverse thrust locking mechanism is based off a solenoid switch. It is a protection in the airplane that won't allow reverse thrust to be added until the cascade doors are deployed. To deploy reverse thrust, you pull on the thrust levers to the gate, wait a second or two, and then the locks release and you can pull back all the way.

Good luck.

JetPipeOverht 09-17-2008 06:05 AM

Not to mention part of that system is auto-retard in the instance of an uncommanded T/R on takeoff which will pop your D@mn hand off if you're not ready for it...

HercDriver130 09-17-2008 07:31 AM

Inspiring story. Just read the article on AOPA web page. Everyone should.

PoBugSmasher 09-17-2008 01:52 PM

Logan,

You are the man...plain and simple! Thanks for sharing your story, and for following up with us.

I remember reading the thread here, when you first posted it. From looking at the date, I had just finished initial training at ExpressJet, myslef, and was waiting at home for IOE to start. At the time I didn't feel I knew enough to give you any useful advice, or opinions.

I just realized that I have been sitting around here, feeling a little bit sorry for myself, since I was furloughed, a couple of weeks ago. (The industry outlook sucks, I'm not making any money, not much time at home etc., etc.)

Then, I then re-read this thread, and your story from AOPA. I have to say that it has truly inspired me, and renewed my own committment. I wish you the best of luck. I hope I have a chance to meet you, and perhaps even fly with you some day. If you are ever in PHX, drop me a PM and I'll buy you a beer.

USMC3197 09-17-2008 08:01 PM

Reading the artical and this thread made me think... no matter how bad we think we have it at times, someone else had it worst and overcame it. I wish everyone a lifetime of safe flights and thanks for sharing your story Logan.

U-I pilot 10-07-2008 02:14 PM

ExperimentalAB 10-17-2008 03:18 PM

Again, it was a pleasure to meet you...next time when we're not both trying to get home, coffee is on me!

ZapBrannigan 10-17-2008 04:45 PM

Great story in AOPA pilot. Congratulations on your success.

jamin35008 10-17-2008 09:02 PM

Logan,
There is not much I can say that has not already been said but THANK YOU! Your courage and strength has giving new meaning to the word DREAM! Anything is possible and if you want it bad enough you will find a way to get it! Thank you for making me open my eyes and reach for my dream! All the Best!!!!!!!

Ask the S5 captain who he took a picture of inflight, with his eyes momentarily shut, and then sent it in to the chief pilot.

The FO took a pic of the CA? True story? What happened then?

Hopefully not a true story. Still a good story overall about overcoming fears and obstacles regardless and I choose to acknowledge we all make mistakes and if he did in fact do that I hope he's reflected upon that action and grown and is a better man for choosing not to do the same in the future. What's your motivation for posting that Crazy?

Karma 05-25-2013 08:33 AM

Nevermind..........

Hints why I said, "no further comment"

I'm very aware of that situation and others involving this FO...

WarpSpeed 05-25-2013 08:43 AM

Thank you for helping to put things into perspective and your inspiration!

CriticalMach 05-25-2013 08:59 AM

I have seen this FO in my flights.

Oskeewowow 05-25-2013 09:28 AM

I've never ran into anyone who has first hand knowledge of his indiscretions. It's always "I know someone who flew with someone who....". I'm starting to believe the tattling thing is an urban myth. He can be a type A FO, so maybe that rubs people the wrong way.

Alright, spit it out and let the community decide if he's guilty of the accusations.

Regardless of what he's overcome previously, no one likes a snitch.

crazy pills 05-25-2013 01:35 PM

Chief pilot deleted it and told him to never do that again. Lucky it wasnt the RW CP

Well, he was blamed for a firing that another rat was responsible for.

Prior to being a line pilot at the circus known as RAH, I worked in the corporate office on Purdue Rd. I have heard many first hand stories about this FO.
I'm not going to share them on this forum. He's not a stand up guy, lets just leave it at that. He's on alot of guys' do not fly lists.
