I saw a billboard coming into CLT this evening that was put up by the Mesa pilot group. I don't remember what it said exactly, but it was basically calling for their pilots to unite and take back the company.

I hear nothing but bad stuff about Mesa. These guys need to strike or quit to send Mesa Airlines to the grave. I am suprised with the huge hiring boom that these guys just don't quit and go somewhere else. Oops, I forgot, because they are slave to the seniority system that they all support. Well, at least I'd quit if I didn't like it.

What type of system do you propose if not seniority-based?

That's exactly what they have been doing (myself included). Attrition has been sky high over there for about the last year.

Did PSA drop ALPA? Or are you just a non-dues paying member?

Actually, I looked through some of your old posts. Wow, you've been through with training for like 2 whole months...your posts make perfect sense to me now.

Merit based system dude. It's total crap that a 10000 hr pilot and a 250 hr wonder start at an airline at the same pay rate. Most professions allow you to make more money when you change companies. I can't figure out why so many people are so in love with the unions that do more to hold us down than allow ourselves to move forward.

Before anyone starts...yes I have read "flying the line". I would still rather negotiate my own wages thank you.

and how exactly do you enforce a merit based system. seniority creates some sort of fairness without bias. merit based will always be biased because theres too much subjective criteria that goes into it.

ok go negotiate your own wages. and if you ding an airplane, go fight your airline and the FAA on your own. and if you have a health problem, good luck getting back your medical on your own. and who needs to get laid, you can do that "on your own" as well.

What kind of merit are we talking about? The one for the guy who kisses ass? Never says no, even when fatigued? Breaks or bends FAR's to get the job done? Not write up the jet at an outstation? Do you grade checkrides? What if your bud is the check airman? No, thanks! While seniority based systems are far from perfect, they keep politics out of the cockpit and that alone increases safety within the operation. So, explain to us the advancement criteria under your merit system.
