Default Comair or ASA Q's

I need some advice. I've got to decide between Comair and ASA. I have done my research but only to be confused at the conflicting responses. Upgrade and reserve seem to much quicker at ASA versus Comair. However CVG at Comair is very close to me if it was possible to get CVG instead JFK. I know they both have their problems and neither are expecting growth but attrition seems to keep increasing. I would appreciate any advice from anyone that knows a thing or two about either regional.

At Comair, you'll most likely be given JFK out of training, but guys have been able to bid back to CVG within the first couple of months.

I say if you live in Cincy go with comair. We are overstaffed it seems in JFK and a lot of guys are timing it so that once they are off IOE they go straight back to CVG. On the other hand JFK is a much more fun base as far as crews go. (my opinion) And you can get senority a lot quicker. However i hear the commute isnt so easy. Just my 2 cents.

How is the closing of MCO and GSO going to affect the CVG and JFK bases? Would that mess up senority?

Comair seems good. I'm at JFK and am sticking with it because I'm barely two months off IOE and I'm pretty senior as far as the reserves go. I'm getting weekends off already or which ever days I want pretty much. And I commute from DFW. But yeah some guys get JFK and when they finish IOE they have CVG back as a base.

MCO and GSO closing had a very minimal impact on the other two bases. Both bases were relatively small compared with CVG and JFK. The folks who transfered in in basically covered attrition (granted they were a senior group).

After the two months of guys moving from GSO to JFK I stayed at exactly the same relative seniority number within the base. Don't forget that the flying from those bases wasn't lost. As the guys from GSO transfered over the block hours in JFK went up by 1600 hours.

The block hours on the 50 seater in cvg did go down by bout 1300 hours over the past 2 months all while the 70 seater went up over 1400 hours in those same 2 months.

So basically the overall impact of the closures on seniority was minimal.

With the closing of the GSO and MCO bases and Comair taking delivery of 900's, and having a good "mix" of the CRJ family, does Comair intend to open say a base in ATL or DFW?

We dont have a very big presence in either of those cities. It seems like if we get another base it will be KBOS.

From what I was told, no base openings are in the near future until things settledown from the base closings. As someone else mentioned the impact was minimal with those senior pilots being displaced. Quite a few are leaving,(I personally know five going to United) and many others to various places. Hiring has picked up again.
That being said, if you live in cincy or near, Comair is a good fit if QOL is important.

Reserve in JFK seems to be getting longer, I am on month three and still cant hold long call (which means I am in the bottom 60%) and I will go down November 1st when MCO arrives and TONS of people BELOW me leave for CVG...hopefuly they are still pumping out new hires or this is going to suck
