there are alot of pilots who hire on and don't consider leaving.
good schedule, decent pay, and home with your family every night.
The flying is awsome and you see some neat things.
I would recommend them for a career especially if you like the outdoors and hunting or fishing
I disagree that they will not hire anyone from outside Alaska. I have seen well qualified alaskan pilots not even get an interview, while people are brought in all the way from Florida! I don't understand it, but that is the way it is. If you are interested, send in a resume, it is a crapshoot and I am glad, otherwise they wouldn't have hired me! I agree with everything else in the above post. The part about pilots not wanting to leave is the biggest problem. For you ambitious guys worried about the upgrade times, don't come to Penair. So I guess that eliminates about 99.999% of the people on this forum

Send a resume to Grant Aviation in Bethel. They love to put 500 hour guys in a 172 aka "the chicken". It is a trial by fire (so I hear). I have heard the radio chatter of the guys flying SVFR out there when I come in IFR, and it can be a real circus. Lots of alaska pilots started out flying in Bethel. For the most part though, you do have to just pick up and move here first. That is what I did. There are also flight schools up here that are looking from time to time for CFI's.

As for pay, there is no union, and no contract. Pay is close to some of the better regionals, but nothing is published. I have a friend who started at ERA about the time I started Penair. I made slightly better $, but it seems quite certain he will be getting twin turbine PIC long before I do. The choice is yours. I wonder how many people on this forum know what a "sled" is

I am impressed. Now the next question. Do you know why it got that name? Two points if you know this one.

Good trivia question, I wish I had the answer. I'll take a guess...is it because a dog sled can be carried in it?

That is a pretty good guess. From what I hear, it got that name because the 207 will carry almost exactly the same amount as a dogsled with a good team of dogs. I have never been able to verify that because the new dogsled is a 4-wheeler/snowmachine.

Now that ERA has filed chapter 11 the talk is that PenAir is getting 3 more SAAB's in aticipation of picking up the ERA routes
that will bring them up to 10 SAAB's
for that they will need to have a new hire class and looking at 9-10 more pilots
Good luck to ERA guys
