Default Street Captain?

I was wondering what a street captain is, and how to become one?

A street captain is someone who holds the minimum requirements to become a captain from day one. They are hired on the premise that they will be employed as captains - straight off the street. How to become one? It is most commonly seen in the corporate world and until recently, it is becoming more popular with the 121 side of the industry. All you need are a combination of total flight hours, and other misc. requirements, and the ability to pass the even more difficult interview. Oh yeah, and the even more difficult training program! A street captain can expect to remain on reserve for a much longer period of time as a result of senior pilots getting awarded upgrades. This will leave the S.Ca. at the lowest bidding level until ALL FO's are either given the oppertunity (SP?) to upgrade or actually do upgrade. Just remember - the golden rule with a unionized airline is SENIORITY.

Good ?

So all you need to do is meet the captain requirements for the airline you are interviewing with (2500 TT, 1000 turbine) and you can walk in as a Captain?

Pretty much. Be able to meet their minimums for street captain hiring. And then once you get the interview, pass it, pass the training program, etc.

Well, yeah. Except that the airline that you are interviewing with needs to be hiring street captains. Only a select few (mainly tier two) companies are hiring street captains right now.

NO. Most companies only allow the hiring of street captains if no pilot on the seniority list meets the requirements to bid for upgrade.

Figured some guys from AE might get the 1000 turbine and jump ship, hoping to hire as street captains elsewhere.

They can and will be more stringent with hiring street captains. Having just the min requirements will not get u the job right now. They are looking for high time folks, like corporate guys looking to ditch their pager. Senority is everything get on board the airline of your choosing first. The street captain thing is over rated senority first. You'll spend less time on reserve get more days off and better pay with a higher senority number. It's all about how much of a personal life you'd like to have. Good luck with your choice.

That would be me!!! So even if I stay on reserve for a while at least I get some sort of guaruntee. Like others have said, they need to be hiring street captains and the only way that happens is if no one on the seniority list meets the min's.
