Car during training
#1
Did any of you guys drive to training? I start in January and it's suppose to be 4-5 weeks long. So i was thinking that that's a pretty long time with no car. And the training is only about 45 minutes from my hometown. So i figured i could save myself a plane ticket for christmas and just drive up there and stay until training starts. But i'm not sure if it'd be worth it in gas and having to deal with the snow. Or i'm not even sure if you would have enough extra free time to make a car worthwhile.

I would bring it, theres always time to take a little time out of the day to go get some food, even hit up a nudie bar or too, (if in IAH, I recommend "Harlem Nights") Nice to be able to go somewhere without having to bribe the hotel van driver

I'm not trying to be mean or insensitive, but part of being an airline pilot is making decisions, and if you need help trying to decide whether or not to drive your car 45 minutes...well good luck. I'm gonna throw my opinion in anyway, DRIVE IT!!!!!! I drove mine about 5 hours to my last long training event and it was well worth it. Not only was I glad to have it, but in your case it will take you three times as long to fly that distance than drive it by the time you get to the airport, ticket counter, board, fly, get off the plane, and find a ride to the hotel.

I would definitely recommend driving. I drove for two days to new hire training, as did several other people in my class. It's nice just to get away from the hotel and not having to rely on someone else for entertainment. I mean seriously, can you really see being cooped up in a hotel for a month or so and not being able to go buy groceries or something without it being an ordeal? I don't know if your airline makes you have roommates or not but I can tell you that being able to get away from my roommate kept me sane. Also, like someone said before, you'll make a lot of friends. You can plan on being one of the most popular guys there.
