I, in fact, have taken a jet course and now finally working on my CFI. it was an absolute brutal but fun experience. 3 weeks of pure information whizzing through a guys head that has a mere 260/55. i guess from the new ASA mins (or lack thereof) i could go and interview with them. but i wont. my jet course was purely introductory and i dont think i can handle a 121 job yet. instructing for a year or so is gonna teach me a little bit more than just a jet course. im the first one to say that i dont know everything. i mean, geez, im only 21....how much could i know anyways???
but then again, when does this hiring craziness end??? if i wait a year, is there still gonna be jobs available? i guess we will never know until it comes..... |

Just had two "retirees" that are over 60 but under 65, said they were re-applying for their old jobs at UAL.............so will the hiring freeze end? I doubt it, will it slow down, or the market become more competetive? I think if "several" guys/gals over 60 & under 65 re-apply to airlines or decide to not retire and fly 5 more years....that yeah it could slow down some.....I say get in while you can, cause you never know what tomorrow will bring..... |
Im not so sure that will be an issue Lbell... I had heard that those who retired prior to the age increase will NOT be allowed to come back.. This was on 60 minutes or something like that so the validity may be in question....

The "two" specific ones were (wanting to) come back cause their wives had passed, they were buddies, just travelling around on their retiree passes, and were as their exact quote "bored"........and something to do with health insurance and premiums (i didn't grasp that part)....

age60rule.com
these guys are trying to get the current age 65 legislation overturned/re-worded because they want it to be retroactive to Nov. 26th '06, when the ICAO regs changed. I personally hope they succeed in getting it overturned, and then fail at trying to get it re-passed...serves them right for piggybacking off age 60 all those years and now trying to extend their high pay while the kids suffer trying to feed their families off regional pay...all because those 2 age 60 guys you're talking about are "bored." If you're over 60 and bored...golf like every other 60+ year old, or get a young foreign girlfriend and use your retirement travel benefits to travel around and drink. Seriously. |

I am in "IOE Guy" over there. I will admit some days are difficult, at best. Day 1 IOE, in and out of the world's busiest airport is a "challenge". However, I have been fortunate that I have never found any newhire to be unsafe. They do pass the same checkride I take ever 6/mo, with the exception of 1 maneuver. The lack of overall enroute IFR experience and handflight skills does show however.
You guys must be having a blast, get to fly a jet, be a flight instructor, having someone listening to the old jokes that actually haven't heard them before AND take home 5 figures a month... Good for you, I used to and miss it every now and then. |
