True that!

Just from being a part of this forum, I have a minute "situational awareness", if you will, of the regional airline business operation. Terms such as IOE, scope, & rig pay all make more sense. Although I must admit that the trip, duty, & rig pay thing I not quite sure if I understand it completely. As a matter of fact, I know I don't. However, it's ok; with time...it'll come!!!

I will say this though; With the airlines lowering their hiring minimums, i.e. 300TT and an ME rating, makes attending a local FBO more and more attractive. Just one catch....what's the availability of a/c and instructors? What's your a/c mix? etc., etc., etc.

I couldn't start my Instrument Rating training for 5 months because there are no CFII's in my school. Now i finally started my training last week only 2 times a week... cause THE instructor is obviously full.... not even that stops people from paying 30k's for a job....

I feel ya. In addition to the two questions listed above, I also entertained the density of the air traffic in that area, maintenance records, prevailing weather, living conditions, and cirriculum ...yada yada yada that went into my decision as to which flight school/academy I would attend.

They barely finished their Associate in Science degree this semester even though they missed the last 3 weeks of class since they went to training before finishing. I don't think it is a good idea to be so desperate, specially if you have some money to keep enjoying the good life that we have in College (30,000$). But they are my friends and i respect their decision.

I would use that money to "accelerate" my career in some other ways... like not working overtime in Domino's Pizza to pay for my college and my training (as i do now) and instead dedicate myslef more to school by doubling the amount of credits that i actually have (about 12) to 21 credits or something like that so i can finish earlier and get my Bachelor's at ERAU as soon as possible.. but hey... thats me. I thank god for this forum, cause a few months ago i wanted to go to gulfstream too, but reading for months this forum taught me that it is the most dumb thing to do in the world...

PS: Weeheee my 1st post!! finally APC opened the registrations!! it was killing me to read so much and not being able to participate!! hehe
Airing your friends laundry on this forum isn't exactly professional. I'm not sure anyone makes a quick and rash decision when it comes to spending $30,000 no matter how close they came to not finishing their, "Associate in Science" degree, whatever that is. This forum is a useful tool but you can't believe everything you hear. Gulfstream's program isn't too far off ASA hiring b/c of a jet transition course or PSA hiring 250 hour pilots into jets. Hand-flying the 1900 all over South Florida isn't glamorous by any means but it is good training for pilots in equipment that isn't too far advanced past the low-time pilots that are flying them.

"Gulfstream's program isn't too far off ASA hiring".....

Actually, I think Gulfstream style PFJ is completely different from ASA paying for a low timers RJ course. Two different animals.

"but it is good training for pilots"

No argument there, but that isn't the point.

Except that ASA isn't paying for the Jet Transition course. The student pays $6000 approx. and then qualifys for an interview with ASA.

No Published Minimums. http://www.flyasa.com/careers/pilot.php

That's not what I heard...

Are you saying you have to pay the 6K initially, then, if you pass the interview and ASA training, ASA pays for it?

Zach, it would be wise to take note that the three letters you typed in the above post were edited out by the filter. It would be good if you didn't use language that the filter won't accpet as you post here in the future.

Thx
