Christmas

I know its a few days away, but who wants to share what fun flying they get to do on Christmas.......

Me I get to go from Richmond - New York (JFK what a wonderful place)- then a deadhead to Providence

Merry Christmas Everyone!

cessna157 12-22-2007 01:29 PM

I've got you beat. I Ferry to LGA, fly to RDU, deadhead to BOS (on Freedom).

I don't mind spending XMAS night in BOS. Half priced food and a good bar in a nice hotel. Only have to leave the hotel room 45 mins before the flight in the AM, so I'm all set!

coldpilot 12-22-2007 01:32 PM

I'm a commuter and on reserve :( At least I get done that night and have the 26th and 27th off!

TUS-DEN-MKE-ORD

sweet.. and if a canary farts, I'll be stuck in MKE with 5 hours of flow.. haha.. here's to hoping for the best! Merry Christmas

cessna157 12-22-2007 01:45 PM

I wasn't aware that a tiny little yellow singing bird has that kind of power. Hmm, learn something every day

whoareyou310 12-22-2007 01:50 PM

PHL-BGR, 1820 show....18 hours in bangor...at least I have half the day at home :) could be worse. have a nice holiday!

Diver Driver 12-22-2007 01:54 PM

Christmas day schedule looks like (I'm CVG based): RDU-CVG-GRR-CVG-CHS... at least I stay busy enough to forget it is Christmas...Never been to Charleston, SC... anything to do?

cessna157 12-22-2007 02:01 PM

Just did a CHS overnight last night. There's a brand new outlet mall across from the hotel, except it'll most likely be closed on XMas day. Other than that, there is nothing near the hotel. Resaturant downstairs and room service is about all you'll get

Christmas

I start IOE out of ORD tomorrow (I am DFW based). I will be in IND on Christmas day. No biggie. My wife and I knew last Christmas would likely be our last for a while. Right now I am in DFW delayed going to ORD due to high crosswinds here
30024G32KT and low ceilings in ORD (18013KT 2SM BR OVC005). Four hour delay so far. I gave up a career in IT sitting in a cubicle for this? Absolutely.

Delays are so much fun! You gave up that job sitting in a cubicle for a smaller cubicle that goes fast and gets delayed haha... Living the dream...

superuomo32 12-22-2007 02:16 PM

I get to sit reserve in Harrisburg!

cessna157 12-22-2007 02:17 PM

It appears your Canary got out today.....

Good thing it wasn't a Macaw or Eagle or something a little bigger. You woulda had some tornadoes

Raildriver 12-22-2007 02:19 PM

New here, been lurking a while to look for my next career after the military.

As far as Christmas day and early evening I will be over central Iraq for about 5 hours.

DustoffVT 12-22-2007 03:18 PM

Hey Rail, merry Xmas to you and everyone you're with. I was flying back from Balad - FOB E - Tallil when it turned midnite on Christmas '05, we almost hit wires looking at the clock. When I woke up at 1500 it was raining sideways...

Be Safe my brother...

KingAirPIC 12-22-2007 03:59 PM

Got this one in the email a few days ago and thought I should share.

"In aviation news, the FAA now sends an inspector to the North Pole to check out Santa Claus's sleigh before allowing him to fly on Christmas eve.

The inspector arrives and checks the reindeer and they look good, he checks the harness and it looks okay, he checks the sleigh and it is also okay. Then he says, "Santa, lets take it up for a check ride and if everything looks good I'll sign you off."

Santa hitches the reindeer up and taxis onto the runway and just as he's starting his takeoff roll he looks over and notices the inspector has a pump shotgun on his lap loading 12 gauge slugs. "Hey! Whats the shotgun for!?" Santa yells.

The inspector says, "Well, Santa, I'm really not supposed to tell you this before hand, but you're going to have an engine failure on takeoff."

Feel free to tell this one to the kids at home :D

Oh yea, I'll be working xmas like the lot of you. Cheers.

Just deadheaded on a [not so badly delayed] BOS JFK delta flight, and the people were absolutely INSANE. we were 2 hours late, I wanted to rip my hair out the entire flight back there being in uniform...... its really hilarious the things PAX say, ecspec with our "long" taxi in JFK (which i thought was rather quick)...... thank god I am done tommorow at 10am.... heres to being an 8 month FO with the holiday's off......thank u comair :)

I second that! Sometimes when i get mad at a bad four day with an early show and a late finish only worth 17 hours. I really try to keep each and everyone of you guys in mind, and then I realize that 4 days is a lot shorter period away from home than 12 months! God Bless All of you all! Good job and Merry Christmas!

Cheers

SK

Christmas in TUL

31 hours in Tulsa, I arrive on the 24th.

I haven't been there yet. Anybody know where the 24hr liquor store, and maybe a Denny's is located? :)

kansas 12-22-2007 05:25 PM

Finish up on the 24th at 1730, then I have the 25th-31st off! To be fair, I was only able to swing it after accepting a junior man from scheduling, since they offered giving me some extra off days for it.

Sure beats last year, when I sat reserve and ate ramen on Christmas.:)

I was just waiting for you to remind us all of that. As I've told many, the world doesn't just shut down on holidays. Some of us actually have to work for a living! :p

You must never go to ORD:D

In other news, I'll be enjoying 3.5 weeks of vacation. Finished at 1pm yesterday, not going back till Jan 14th. Happy holidays everyone! You know what they say, "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with". After a few eggnogs I bet those FAs start looking pretty good;)

matlok 12-22-2007 06:06 PM

Got the 24th off, but on C-mas a 0550 show for a GSP turn, then a THREE HOUR sit before going to a CRP overnight - back to DFW the next morning @0600, HOU turn and i'm done. Well not really I work the next day too.

ExperimentalAB 12-22-2007 08:27 PM

Off Christmas-Eve in ORD at 820p...looking for a LGA flight at 900p (don't even think of stealing that J/S on me ;) or I'll have to go all scrooge on you!

Finding my way back home sometime the day after...Merry Christmas and remember - it still beats looking at the walls of a cubicle day in and day out!!

WIFlyer 12-22-2007 09:21 PM

Start a 4 day at 3pm with 6 legs and overnight in Rhinelander, WI on the 25th! I get to spend the morning with family though. Then I start another 4 day on the 31st with a 10 hour overnight in CWA--no drinks for me . . . . oh well, as a 6 month F/O I can't complain . . . . yet ;)

Happy Holidays everyone

usmc-sgt 12-23-2007 04:22 AM

That's pretty slick to pull off with PBS. I'll be doing IAH-PHL-IAH with a 4 hour sit in PHL. Hopefully we won't be delayed so I can get home for dinner briefly while sitting in PHL.
