Default PSA Flying

Can any PSA flyers on here provide some input on what the reserve and line flying is like in TYS? What's the application process after I email them my cover letter and resume?

TYS lines are different than CLT. The majority of the trips start very early and end late. That is the major drawback to the TYS base. Expect to be deadheaded to CLT if you are on reserve to do trips. It makes no sense. They will have a CLT guy sitting on reserve doing nothing, yet deadhead a guy from TYS to do a CLT trip.

The Knoxville area is nice. If you are looking to relocate, I would choose TYS. If you are a commuter, go to CLT.

Except that CLT trips now end later than ever.... 10pm and later.
So after spending 4 days and 3 nights away from your family you may as well say goodbuy to another night.
Must be part of the Moral improvement scheme our higher ups thought of.
A lot of us here think that management wants to shrink PSA. Get the old MEC back and then we will get the 90 seaters for 50 seat pay. Lose half our fleet and then managment can show a huge profit. Moving the same amount of pax for less $$$.
Our schedules and hotels have been so bad for the past couple of years that they are driving pilots away. Management does zero to increase our quality of life. Long trips...only 10 days off a month. Here is a plus...we get $1.40/hr per diem. You can make $500/month and more in just per diem. You just spend 100 hrs a week away at work.

The big reason I'm looking at PSA and commuting to TYS from DFW is b/c my parents live in Knoxville...so no crashpad needed. How many hours are reserve guys blocking...90+? How long are guys on reserve before getting a line? Is PSA meeting their goal of hiring 40 pilots every month?

Thanks for the feedback y'all...keep it coming!

The crews in TYS are great. And you will get a line faster too.

Honestly, commuting is awful, especially long ones when there's not many flights between the two airports. I would do Eagle, or if you have to commute pick a Texas carrier like ExpressJet that would be an easy commute. But I do understand the cheap factor.

PS Thanks for the text message on Christmas!

Reserve time changes constantly. I was only on reserve for 2 months, but now the staffing levels are much better, so it could be longer now. As far as catching a ride with Eagle from TYS to DFW, I did that for a while, and it gets old real quick. I gave up and just moved to TYS. Those ERJ's cant carry much wieght, so if there is bad weather at DFW and an alternate is required, you will not get on the flight due to the extra wieght in fuel. Those flights are almost always full as well. Do not try and commute from TYS. Go to CLT or get with another company. I know from experience that it does not work. The cost of living is so cheap in the area around the airport in TYS, so you can easily afford to have your own place. 1 BR apt go for $320 a month. Just suck it up and live there for a while. Thats what I'm doing.
