rickair & jetjock,

I submitted an application on the skywest website almost a week ago, how long does it usually take for a reply? Maybe hr is just backed up!!! I'll wait another week...

It can take some time if you just go the online route; they are pretty busy with all of their recruitment events. If you can, the most effective way to get an immediate interview is to attend one of the interviews. Below is a link to our recruitment page.

http://www.skywest.com/careers/pilot/groupinterview.php

If you can't make it to one of the events and you don't get a call within the next week then drop me a line and I'll help you out.

Best of luck!

PSP, SBA, SMF are super senior
COS, TUS, DEN, SLC are generally attainable within a year as a FO
MKE, ORD are very junior, expect one of these out of training
SFO, LAX are reserve only... so only ABOUT 8 pilots total at each
ATL was fairly junior but it's shrinking so hard to know, probably in the same category as COS/DEN and so on.

Dude, how could you leave out the greatest domicile in the SkyWest system???!!!

Back in the day, it could take a year or two. I assume they are just out for the holidays, but the response time can be variable...sometimes same day, sometimes months. If you're 121 you will probably get called more quickly than otherwise. The best thing is to have someone walk your resume in or call/email the recruiter on your behalf...that usually get's immediate results.

Question...

I'm going to be applying to Skywest in the near future, where do you see me being placed. I have no previous 121 experience, just CFI'ing, but I live in Chicago. Will they give me ORD if I make the point that I live in Chicago?

Nope. They will put you where they need you. Although you probably will get to bid on a base if there are vacancies in more than 1 location. Just hope that your last 4 of your SSN start with a low number ;)

I thought ORD was the most junior base? When do you find out your base assignment? Would you be able to transfer bases after a certain amount of time?

Mike is right on, you will be put where they need you! Be prepared for the possibility of the EMB, then I will start seeing you on the ORD-LAX flights. We had a mix of CFI's and others that had turbine experence in our ground school! Its where they need you despite where you live or your backround. (Execpt if your from another 121 carrier!)

I was hired in Sept and there are guys in my class that were awarded DEN and COS for Jan.

ORD is very junior. If you bid it, it's yours.

ORD is a jet base only, so if you are hired into the EMB (likely since you're a CFI), you will not go there. You can do a year in the EMB and then transfer to the CRJ in ORD, at which time you would have good seniority.
