1)no 2)yes 3) --- 4) training contract start after your checkride I believe
Im interested in knowing the answer to a couple of questions.
-I understand you do not get pay during training but are you considered an employee?
-Hotel is provided during training? (I read on a gouge that it was just wanted to confirm)
-Anyone have a copy of the employment contract they could send me?
-Does the contract start after IOE or the first day of training?
Thanks

When this happened, we were deep in the recession and everybody was strapped for cash. It seemed silly that the "girls" would get so upset about somebody throwing money at them. Do European strippers get upset if you throw a 1 Euro coin on stage? Oh well, that night was one of my better drunken memories from Lakes...and I have lots.

What does everyone think the future of Lakes is? With the ATP law already starting to show for most airlines, even Lakes, there is no way they can keep going with what they have been doing for years. No more 300 hour pilots for them to pick up for cheap. Now that the requirements are the same to fly for any regional with a jet, no one will be going to Lakes for low pay in a prop. Do you think they will be able to afford to stay competetive with the jet reginals or will they fall apart?

Reserves get 10 days off a month. Usually in blocks of 3 days. Sometimes there are loner useless days off. I got 12 off once for some reason with a big break at the end, that was nice.
Commuting to an outstation does not look like fun. If you can get to hold a hub (DEN, MSP) it is not so bad. It looks like 1-4 months to be able to hold a hub as a base right now for a new hire FO, but then you will wait much longer to get a line. The issue is repeated when you look at upgrading as the hubs are more senior on the CA side as well.

Is Lakes still sending guys out to Williston, ND? Just listened to a really interesting Planet Money podcast on Williston. $2100/month for a one bedroom apartment. $17/hr to work at WalMart, and they still can't hire enough employees.

They are keeping 6 CA's and 6 FO's out there for a whopping 2 flights per day. Not sure why they haven't pulled the plug yet, but I really wouldn't anticipate maintaining a crew base there for much longer. Don't worry about asking how long. I don't have an 8 by 10 of the "big picture".
