I willing to bet the FO didn't have the 15million candle power flashlight. I'll give three to one odds he didn't. Had he spent the few extra dollars and set it up exactly like I said before this wouldn't have happened. I'm telling you folks. There are no such things as accidents. Everything is 100% preventable. Either get the 15million candle power light or be ready for the consequences. Who cares if you blind everyone else and distract THEM from their duties. It's all about YOU and staying safe. Personally when I JS or when my family wants to go somewhere I always poke my head in the cockpit and make sure there's a 15million candle power flashlight. There's just no excuse to not maximize every lumen of light possible on an aircraft. No excuses.

That's some pretty weak sarcasm there, TD.

Not entirely funny either.

I have solved this case. The extra lights would not have helped.

What? There's no sarcasm I'm backing you 100%. If you're not blinding the guy behind you you're just not doing everything you can to be safe. It's scientific fact.

I was sitting at the end of LGA's 4 the other night when the plane in front of us was kind enough to turn the strobes on as they taxiied into position. Amazingly enough, I could still see after that first flash and I had stopped looking by the time the second came around. I guess I'm a medical miracle.

I'll be in the minority with you Texas. I don't turn on the strobes crossing a runway and I also don't turn them on when in positon and hold at night either until cleared for takeoff unless there happoens to be no one else waiting to takeoff. I prefer to be considerate. A flash or two of the strobes may not kill my night vision but it sure as hell is annoying. I'm betting the folks replying to this thread also like to blind people on taxiways with their taxi lights and landing lights too when crossing on a parallel taxiway head on. No beef if you're company books tell you to do so however. I don't buy the extra measure of safety being all that much or that big of an advantage. Not flying increases safety too...

There's more than one way to fry a fish...and to fly an airplane.
