RAH is planning to hire 700-800 during 2008. Granted, some of that is to cover the 20-30/month attrition rate, but RAH is also adding more aircraft than it is losing in 2008. The grass is still a nice shade of green...

What would you call it when the last class of new hires is scheduled for Feb and the memo from our President states they will let attrition do the job of getting staffing to adequate levels?

As far as I know they are still hiring and doing classes. Maybe they are doing it to give the guys in the training department something to do. I dunno.

I think training will have more time to come up with scenarios for our recurrent training. As FTR just said, hiring is coming to a stand still. And if the numbers posted on the other thread are correct, we will have it this way for most of 2008. So you and I are going to be on reserve for a long time. That or we can apply to somewhere else that is growing.

Saw a previous post and tried the Jetcareers.com site 'couse I hadn't seen it before. Then found this on it:

Comair set to cut fleet, flights
Friday January 11, 2008

Comair, a regional subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, will eliminate up to 14 50-seat aircraft from its fleet of 131 regional jets.

Delta previously announced it will cut its domestic flights by up to 5%, a reduction that is the equivalent of 10 mainline aircraft and 35 RJs. Delta Connection carriers will have up to 15% fewer scheduled block hr. as the company reduces flying and fuel consumption. At the same time, DL intends to increase international capacity by 15%.

Some of the Comair reductions will be achieved through decreased utilization while others will result in the return of aircraft to lessors, President John Selvaggio said in a memo sent to employees Wednesday. Eight of the eliminated aircraft are on leases that expire soon while the remaining six will be removed from service and could be sold.

"With fewer block hours, Comair must align our staffing across the company to support what will become a smaller operation," Selvaggio said, adding that he expected "front-line reductions" to be met through attrition. "Most immediately we expect to achieve savings by revising existing programs as well as by implementing new technology initiatives that will help us streamline our work."

Comair currently has 6,300 employees and operates 697 flights to 88 cities in the US and Canada. Delta has expressed an interest in selling the subsidiary for some time.
