Does anybody know why most RJ's don't have autothrust? It seems like it'd be pretty annoying to keep adjusting power all day long. Is it not available, or do the airlines simply not order it?
How do you go about power management anyway? Do you chase a specific speed/mach, or do you just set a specific power setting and take the speed you get?

I think this has already been said once...I think it's a sad day when making minor power adjustments is an annoyance in an airplane that practically every knob/button has an "AUTO" position. (Granted, not all RJ's are like that) Not attacking anyone, just my $.02

Trust me - You'll think all the automation is great for about two weeks off IOE, at which point you'll realize that flying just isn't the same anymore. Fly the airplane whenever possible and keep yourself sharp.
btw, got to fly a LOC back-course to min's yesterday...it felt good - real good, in fact, to not get vectors to an ILS for a change!

youre still missing the point. the cockpit is a great place to catch up on things like the USA Today, watching a movie, getting good at some sort of hobby. I applaud this person's motivation to want autothrottles in the cockpit so he/she can better him/herself in more ways than just being a pilot.

Although the CRJs don't have autothrottle, the newer models (700 and beyond) do have Fadec, which makes life a lot easier. I don't think they take away any part of the "flying the airplane" aspect. They do add an increased margin of safety though, such as setting the power during takeoff, automatically adding power in the event of failure, and overspeed protection (you can just firewall them if you have to with no ill effects).
