Default SKW newhire info

I have the CRJ class in Feb. I'm hoping for ORD since I live there. If I get ORD or MKE are the reserves flying alot? And how many hours? Also, what investment company is SKW using for the 401K? (Fidelity, T Rowe)? Just want to know if I'll be busy when I show up. I hope to be.

Out of the last class 8 got ORD and the rest MKE. Lucky for you the ORD - MKE commute would be easy. We use Wells Fargo for our 401K.

Reserves as of late have not been flying a whole lot...the result of more-than-adequate staffing as well as the winter slowdown. But at least you'll be sitting at home and not in a lousy crashpad!

Welcome to SkyWest!

I would say that by the time you hit the line, the flying will have (hopefully) picked up some, so you might fly a little more than guys are now. Of course, you'll be on reserve for sure, but you might get to fly more than five hours per month.

It is good to see someone interested in a companies 401K plan. I think everyone should always max out their 401K company match (or else you are giving away free money).

At Skywest, the 401K match is:
1-4 yrs service (2%)
5-9 yrs service (4%)
10+ yrs service (6%)

I think this is pretty decent for the regional industry. However, as with most things, there is room for improvement.
For example, here is the 401K match at Expressjet:
1-4 years service (4%)
5-9 years service (5%)
10+ years service (6%)

I know SKYW contributions are vested immediately...is that the same at Expressjet?

Sure would be nice to sit at home! I haven't flown in 2-1/2 weeks, and it doesn't look like I'll be flying at all on this reserve block either. That means a lot of time in the crashpad!

I doubt it.... I do believe no vesting period is a rare phenomenon.

I've been on the line since the beginning of Nov. in ORD. My approx. flight time has been...

45hrs. in Dec.
30hrs in Jan.
4hrs so far in Feb.

and I agree with Sharkair....HOPEFULLY the flying will pick up!

So what are you doing the rest of these months when you're flying under 80hrs? Are you on reserve or are they just days off?

If you're a reserve-line holder, you'll be sitting reserve...not too many hard-lines credit under 80 hours. And again, if you don't mind being within 2 hours of the Airport or so, you can have a blast on reserve.
