I would like to echo bustinmins sentiments. I too spent just under 10 years at Mesa. Going there is a BAD idea. Even if you lived in base, it is a BAD idea. That company will try its hardest to anger/violate/upset/fire/kill you. These are not the ramblings of a few disgruntled former employees. These are rock solid FACTS.

I am telling you pilot to pilot....DO NOT take a job at Mesa. GO for the practice....and LEAVE.

#1. Friend don't let friends fly for MAG.

#2. You are going to get JA's etc. so much you will not have days off AND the line you are awarded will be reassigned SO MUCH it will not be the one you fly.

#3. Don't expect a quick upgrade with 500 pic and 600 total. you have about 1000 pic left needed to upgrade, or pic x 2 for sic time needed. This will be about 2 or more years at MAG before you can upgrade here.

I will bet that Skywest would hire you in a New York minute. Don't waste your life over here at MAG- it is a joke that will wear you down and burn you out. Find employment where you will be respected (more at least). You should still interview for the practice though.

G'luck.

With your flight time, you could go to....

Expressjet, Pinnacle, Mesaba, ASA, American Eagle, Comair, Air Wisconsin, PSA, Piedmont, and several others. All of these airlines are in a different league than Mesa.

The reason why EVERYONE on this board is telling you not to go to Mesa is because it is the advice they would give their closest friends and family. Mesa is the most poorly run airline in the world. Pilot morale is terrible and management is doing one hell of a job of running the airline into the ground.

In the next 2-3 years, I predict Mesa will loose most to all of their United and US Air flying. Those airplanes have to go somewhere, and that will either be the desert (ie, retired), or China. Mesa will continue to shrink (as they have been over the last year or so). In addition to your delayed upgrade, you will be costing yourself tens of thousands of dollars in lost wages, perhaps one hundred thousand dollars by not choosing a quality airline like Skywest, Expressjet, Republic. When Mesa goes under, or you get fed up working there, you will have to go back to these airlines anyway, so why not just start there.

Personally, I think going to Mesa is like investing in Enron. Actually, people had no clue that Enron was going to go bust. So how about like investing in some company that everyone knew would go bust. Are you willing to risk several years of your life with Mesa...

When you come back on here in a few years asking "Is Skywest hiring?", or "What are the mins at Republic?", or "What is the junior base at Expressjet?", we will all be as helpful to you as we possibly can. We will be as helpful as we all are today by telling you to NOT go to Mesa. But we will not have any sympathy. Rather, we will mention, "I told you so!"
We are telling you NOT to go to Mesa for a good reason. You can take everyone's advice, or you can choose to ignore it. The decision is up to you.

Personally, the sooner you realize that Mesa is not the place to get your time, the sooner you will be on your way to a successful career. Every minute you spend at Mesa is time you are taking away from your final career destination, and costing you lots of money.

I have spelled it out as best as I can. Do not go to Mesa!!!

"SuperPilot" as you put it...if you go to MAG you deserve everything & I do mean everything you get. Your "20 of PIC in a GA turboprop" is a crock. Sorry to bust your bubble but obviously you've got alot to learn with your > 600 hours of flight time. Take the advice of everyone on this board and DO NOT go for that excuse for an airline (which includes GoFarts). Unless you enjoy ridicule (deserved) and denied jumpseats (also deserved). They have done more to drag this career done than anyone. But to each his own. With your screen name I sure you've figured it out though by now. Best of luck to you!

Default take advise

My first couple of semesters in College I set a short term goal: Finish my Associates Degree and go to Gulfstream Academy. I personally went to FT. LAUDERDALE, FL while doing my PVT training and they really made me believe that they were the Best option of the PLANET. Then I got to know this forum.... so I decided to check what do Airline Pilots think about all that Gulfstream idea.... geezzz....I got very angry when i read all the comments. I was new to this website and i NEVER expected the 80% of the people here telling me that i shouldn't do that. I got really mad and I tried not to listen. But i couldn't keep myself from thinking about those comments.... after a couple of weeks they just made click on me and i decided to change my short-term goal...

Now im willing to become a CFI, CFII, MEI .... and get a Bachelor before making any move to an Airline (BTW Thanks to every single person in this forum who cares about their coleagues and are always willing to give ADVISE). So, in other words... MY ADVISE: TAKE ADVISE... If I were you, I would listen to them, they are airline pilots...they are very into this business... just take a few days to really think about it...and think about the "possibility" of trying another regional. I know you should be now thinking: Geez what do they know about me?? I can do whatever I want to do with my life!!!!!, and yes you are absolutely right, we don't know anything about you except that you have 600/200's hours flying.... we dont know if you have a DUI, we dont know if you got your license revoked 4 times, we dont know if you have something against the other regionals.... We dont know ANYTHING. We are just giving some advise, that's it. The decision is ENTIRELY up to YOU if you take it or leave it!

Do what you think is going to be better for YOUR future, and your family if you plan to have one (or already have one)...

Hope this helps!

Jose.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever read on here and a ridiculous reason to go to a crappy airline.
