Unnusual Challenge: Where to go with 2100+TT 300+ME?
#11
Yeah, I intended to fly the crap out of the CRJ in FSX before I interview!!
Well, I really wanted to avoid commuting, even if it is pretty a easy skip. But will keep it in mind...
Atlmsl, Id love to get more info on ASA, anything would be great. Do you mind if I reach you eventually if I have any questions on ASA? Thanx.
I wonder then why did Spirit and JetBlue get rid of their 1000hr PIC-Jet if they are going to end up anyways hiring people from Part 121 ops? To get them sooner before they reach their 1000hr left seat mark? Just courious...
Again, thanx a lot for the info!

Had been looking at alot of the same kind of info on ASA about two weeks ago and alot of ASA guys posted info for me , if they are reading this Thank-You. For the gentleman that started the post- I believe the lady at ASA that you are talking about's name is Jenny and she is an amazing lady that really seems to want to help out their pilot prospects in any way she can-Also try and speak with Dale, he is one of the head guys at pilot reqruitment and is also a wealth of info and help. I was very impressed by the way ASA treated me during all aspects of their screening and application process. I was scheduled to interview with them on the 27th/28th of this month but have had to push it back to the 5/6th of March, because of my current employment situation. Like I said I did alot of research on the company so anything you have a question on ask and I'll try to be of help. One last thing-you said you where a lil worried about the sim ride in the 700. One off the last questions Dale asked me during my Pre-screening was if I had any glass cockpit time, when I told him that I did not, he told me to deff. go and get MFS X, I can't tell you what a confidence booster it has been over the past week, knowing that I have been flying that airplane every day on the computer. Yes I know that my computer room is not a level D sim but I actualy have alot of jet simulator time and you dont even realize the things moving most off the time because you are to busy concentrating on your scan. Good luck and keep us informed on how things go- this Forum is awesome especially for guys that are not in the 121 gossip loop and need to be. I've been flying a jet for the past four years for a Pt. 91 company and had a totally different idea af the airlines untill I came here. Alot of *****ing about things, but also a Great Knowledge Bank.

The reason spirit and jetblue don't have the TPIC requirement is for the exact reason you specified, 121 FO's looking for jobs. You're TT is very competitive (infact more than) however, while your multi is very decent for any instructor, and impressive when it comes to getting that first job, it's also around as much as a airline pilot flies in 4 months time.
If you'd like to get to spirit or Jetblue, my advice would be a year getting some 121 turbine experience as an SIC, and then put in your application, worst they'll say is no. Plus, you'll be looking at having 3100 hrs TT, plus 1000 hrs SIC-Turbine, if they don't bite, stick it out another year or two, upgrade, and leave whenever the time is right. With the time you have though, i'd be picky about where you go, in this current industry, you're very marketable, so don't settle for a lowball, or location that you don't want to be.
PS- Had a RAH guy jumpseating with us the other day, and i thought he said they have a ATL base for the 170, but i'm not 100% sure. Might be worth checking out.

Shuttle America has a base in ATL.
Chautauqua has a base in GSO.
Republic has a base in DCA.
When you interview, you have the opportunity to tell them which certificate you'd like, and why. With the way we're hiring right now, I imagine they'd be more than happy to accomodate you if you had a good reason for wanting one airline over the other. When you get the job offer and class date, they tell you which airline it's for so you'd have the chance to turn the offer down if it wasn't what you wanted.

I don't think you'll get a call from Spirit, Jetblue or any of the nationals (Airtran, Frontier). They have thousands of regional guys trying to get on with them, those guys usually have a couple of thoudsand RJ hours. Also those companies want to make sure you can succesfully complete class/sim-training on something heavier, like an RJ or Dash 8. They really want to see that turbine time

That is great info! I didnt know about when or how I could bring up to the company's attention about where I want to be based and all that. One question though: Wouldnt it look bad if they offer a class date for a certificate and I turn it down just because that certificate doesnt have a base that I want? Im not sure, I just dont know, is this standard procedure?, I wouldnt want to seem ungrateful to the company by turning down an offer...
I don't think you'd seem ungrateful if you turned down a class because it wasn't for the certificate you wanted. You've got solid reasons for wanting one over another, and QOL is paramount when you move to a new job. RAH has been turned down by applicants before and I'm sure they'll be turned down again.

Yeah, that seems like a good way to bring it up. Thanx a bunch!
Now what about this: Do you guys think that it would look bad if I ask to the company (ASA in this specific case) for an interview date now even tho I wouldnt be able to start with them until May 1st (I commited the school Im now for 6 months, and they are due in april.)? The basic reason is because that would give me and my wife plenty of time to look for places in ATL and try to set up as much as we can ahead of time before I go into training (If I get hired and offered a class date)
I now I can just call ASA HR folks directly about this, but hey, you guys have given great opinions and suggestions, why not run it through you guys first?
Thanx again for the help!
