AWAC, early March 2006, CRJ-200, PHL-ATL. At block-in the IOE instructor looked at me, stuck out his hand to shake mine and said "Congratulations, you just flew a jet!"

I didn't bother telling him I had already flown a jet, as it was the sentiment that counted...

First flight BE1900C BOS-BTV. Captain was almost 10 years my junior (I started in aviation a little later in life) asks me what I did before flying, and I admitted I had been an ED nurse he says "my wife just started as an ED nurse in Portland" after that he couldn't do enough to make my first flight flow smooth. He did the takeoff but gave me the landing. By the end of the day (4 legs) I felt like I had been sitting on the tail the whole time. He turned and said don't worry I can already tell you will make it and be sitting in this seat. A year later he was correct. That was 16 years ago.

He was trying to impart some of his SJS onto you.

I think id try to think of something comical such as "Congrats, you just made $36.40!"

I knew my stuff, but the pressure to do well and remember this flight after years of education, training, instructing & interviewing was a little overwhelming. To start off, I didn't know where to go: mx hanger...the gate...where the f-- is ops? After I found my OE CA, we were on our way. It was his leg. I stumbled with my callouts, but we made it airborne on a beautiful Colorado day. A very rewarding aspect of the flight is that the flight crossed directly over my childhood/teenage backyard in the SW San Juan range. I had spent all my free time with family and friends in those mountains hiking, jeeping, skiing and snowmobiling.
When we were finally approaching DRO...captain's leg...he decided to give me a lesson on how capable this DHC-8 really was. We were on a long final to rw20. He told me to tell him when I thought we were too high (altitude fellas ) to make the runway. Well, when we got to the point that I couldn't see the end of the runway off the nose (I think were roughly 4000' AGL) I said there was no way we can make it. We were slow at that point, and he called for props, flaps, flaps, gear, flaps (35). Next I found my myself decelerating (in what seemed to be at the time) a vertical dive...then we stabilized at 1000', touched down softly at the 1000' markers, and then came to a stop within...oh...500'.

I've loved the Dash since that day...and had a great OE experience.

...and that was my first airline pilot experience.

Was this with P. Rowe?

I was out of flying for 10 years, and then got a class date at a regional. I was almost done with training, and then turned on the TV about noon on 9.11.2001.

I passed my oral and simulator check the next day, and was furloughed about a week later. About a year after than, I got another class date at an airline, but not a regional.

I never did have a first flight at a regional airline.

Yesterday, MCI to DTW.
It flew nothing like the sim. Go figure.

To ad:

On the first takeoff, I was waiting for the V1 cut; on the first leg, I was waiting for an electrical or fire somewhere too.

I have more PTSD from the Sim, than I do from a tour in Iraq...
I love this business...
