Great Lakes....YGBSM!!
#1
So I get this email today. I know you shouldnt read tone into an email, but just the way this read made me think these guys are a bunch of pricks. I HOPE I AM WRONG for those of you that work there, but they dont pay enough for me to put up with stuff like this.
I wrote back recommending that they adjust the way they correspond with people realizing that people come to them for a quick touch and go to build hours, but people dont deserve to be treated like this.
Note the NO PAY for training and Williston ND or NM....***!!
email below:
This email has been sent in response to your resume submitted in consideration of a Pilot position with Great Lakes Airlines. We have reviewed your credentials and are very interested in speaking with you about our current openings*.
*Please be advised that the following minimums must be met prior to scheduling an interview:
• At least 80 hours logged in the last 6 months
• At least 35 hours logged in the last 90 days
• Current ratings:
o Multi-engine (3 take-offs/landings in last 90 days)
o Instrument (6 approaches in last 6 months)
If you do not meet the above minimum requirements, please reply to this email noting which minimum(s) you do not currently meet. You will receive an email response with an update on the status of your application.
Our junior domiciles are Williston, ND and Farmington, NM. It is highly likely that you will be placed initially at one of these bases. Please reply and let us know if you are not interested in either one of these locations.
If you meet the minimum requirements as described above, and are interested in discussing this opportunity further, please contact me at the number below to set up an interview. Please have your 6 month and 90 day times totaled when calling.
Interviews will be held on 5/6/11 in Denver, CO. Transportation to the interview is not provided.
Additionally class, if selected, lasts 4-6 weeks and is unpaid. However, if selected, hotel accomodations are provided for during class.
We look forward to hearing from you--this offer expires 5 days from the date of this message.
Thank you,
Michelle Zender

I don't see anything wrong with that. The no pay during training and junior bases are well documented on most forums. If you weren't aware of that, the email informs you as such so that you don't waste your or the company's time in coming to an interview if the terms are unacceptable. If the pay and bases are what have you saying" YGTBSM", that's old news. I don't condone the company's practices, but I don't see whats new here either.
Out of curiosity, what were your times when offered the interview?

I say shame on you for not doing your research before applying. Lakes' bases, pay, and interview requirements are not some type of top-secret information that you don't get until you're offered an interview.

It's a small community in aviation and not too difficult to pass along information, which may either benefit or hurt you in the future.
Next time you're faced with such situation, a simple response is probably the best choice: "Thank you for the offer to interview (or offer of employment), but after careful consideration, I have decided not to pursue this opportunity due to other personal committments. Should my situation change in the future I hope that I might be able to reapply and be considered by your company. Best wishes in your candidate search. Sincerely, Joe Pilot"
Why burn a bridge that you don't have to?

No offense intended, but you really should reconsider taking out your frustration on an employer, especially if you have sent an application/resume without doing some basic research.

I'd be the first person to tell you I'm not a fan of Lakes but I don't see what the problem is here. They are being as up front as they can about how poorly they treat people. I think you'd have a case to be more upset if they pretended to be awesome and 2 months into your training contract you realized they're full of it. If you aren't interested, just say so and move on. I know for a fact that management at Lakes views these forums to see what people are saying about the company. They occasionally comment on here too. There's a good chance they will figure out who you are on here if they care enough to do so. You're not anonymous online so make sure you're willing to say the things you say online to the face of anybody that might read them.
