That's a valid point. Hopefully new rules would force airlines to schedule better to eliminate wasted duty time. This would have to be backed up by union work rules of course.

Exactly. The schedules will be forced to become more efficient, which is a good thing. Nothing like flying 3 legs, sitting for 4 hours, then one leg to the outstation for a min rest. It's infuriating as we all know. Anyway, I don't think the Unions would be willing to sacrifice days off at any cost. That's the only reason many people I know stick with this career - the time away from home is balanced by the days off. Take those away and many people will leave (me included).

Fill out a NASA form every single time and include fatigue as a contributing factor. Each form specifically requests "Factors affecting the quality of human performance."

Go! has got to really be hurting without these two pilots not actively flying

The statement from Ornstein regarding pilot fatigue is of interest:
"We don't write the rules, we abide by them. We've done it for 25 years and will continue to do so for the next 25 years."
Translation: "We've been doinking pilots for 25 years, and will do so for the next 25. PS - Who wants a job flying a shiny jet at mesa?"

Max 12 hours scheduled duty, maximum 14 hours actual duty.
If actual duty exceeds 12 but is less than 13 hours, minimum 10 hours "behind the door" rest. If exceeds 13 but less than 14, minimum 11 hours "behind the door" rest. If actual duty meets 14 hours minimum 12 hours "behind the door" rest.
We didn't learn anything with AA at LIT, we didn't learn anything with CorpEx in IRK, we haven't learned anything from the numerous 91/135 fatigue-related accidents. "We" is the FAA, the public, and yes even professional pilots. How much MORE blood has to be shed???
WAKE THE F UP FOLKS. If industry-wide duty limitations improving safety compromises the ability for somebody to do a 22 hour 3-day trip, in my eyes, so be it.

A recent 8 leg day I completed had 5.5 hours of unpaid turns. I'm pretty sure I wasn't just sitting there either during those turns. I recall working.
