It's immoral? Last I checked, it's a free country. If I start a business, my goal is going to be to succeed, and if I do, good for me. Warren Buffet made some smart decisions, and he has a lot of money. Good for him. Bill Gates and Paul Allen started Microsoft at a timely time, and they made a lot of money. Good for them. Same for the Google guys, or anyone else. Some people get lucky, and some people just work the system better than others. Good for them. But I'm pretty sure success is not immoral.

And no, their salaries are not the reason we pay so much for gas. The reason is that their raw material, which is crude oil, is expensive. And it's expensive because we're competing with the rest of the world for the same resource, and we're beholden to foreign control of the supply. I'm not saying all of OPEC is deliberately trying to screw anyone (though they could be), but if I'm not mistaken Venezuela, for example, has a little bit of sway there and they're not exactly our friends.

And don't take this personally, but you seriously sound like a communist. Seriously.

I agree 100% papacharlie. It's obscene for one man to make that much when average working joe has a hard time filing up his car. The above article can be read in its entirety on Washingtonpost.com I cannot understand people that defend people like that. I guess then it's OK for NWA to file bankruptcy and cut 40% off pilots salaries and then turn around give NWA CEO mega million dollar bonus in the tune of $47 million dollars?

papacharlie check out the Major forum section under the Oil $100/bbl thread. They have buys on there saying all the things I've heard word by word from oil company employees. Don't want to repeat what they are writing because it will really make you upset. Go check it out and post your opinion there countering their bs.

Try eleven dollars for a pack of cigs!

It's called freedom bro. It's none of yours or the government's business how much a company pays a CEO. It is only the business of the shareholders and stakeholders in a company. It is not for the government to regulate, and it is not for you to open your porky mouth about either. You have the right to say that it isn't fair but the government has no right to go and regulate how much companies can pay their employees.

Come on guys....immoral? I don't think so. Thats just a nice fuzzy excuse for you to use to make yourself feel better because your jealous its not you with that kind of cash. Am I jealous? HECK yeah but I wouldn't go so far as saying its immoral. If I went to Havard, Yale, Wharton, MIT and received an MBA or PhD I too may have a chance to reach those levels or perhaps if I had the unique savy of a Buffet or Gates get there as well but these guys weren't just some beer drinking average Joe fraternity plucked from obscurity to run a mega corp. This isn't Blacksheep. These guys worked REALLY hard to get to the elite level. Are they over compensated? Perhaps. Is it right? Probably not to the extent that its being done.....but immoral? Enron, now THAT was immoral.

i was really hoping that this oil discussion would never make it to this forum filled with intelligent educated people...... simple answer is that we shouldnt complain about the increase in the price of oil....there are places in the world that pay $9 US for one gallon of gas........everyone accuses the usa for invading iraq because of oil.....if that was really the truth we wouldnt be paying 105 a barrell...2 ways to fix this....get rid of the tree huggers and increase domestic production or rob iraq of all their oil (it can be their way of paying us back for our "services" in liberating their country)....i figure if everybody already believes were at war for oil we might as well follow thru with the deal and take what we can....

now we all know that neither of these things will happen anytime soon....... im all for LNG and think its the perfect tempory fix for the slim suplpy of crude left.....liquid natural gas or propane can power reciprocaing engines and turbines with very little modification of the original engine design

Once oil hits $200 a barrel for no reason at all and you're out of a job you might change your tune. I would agree with your opinion if we were talking about a hot dog chain but not an oil giant.
