Was it the Pilot Group???? Really...Maybe it was the poor choice of people who got on board of the Unionizing Committee.

Point in case, almost EVERY SINGLE ALPA Union Committee member is now in line for a class date for the Q400. (Yourself Included)

The whole reason the drive got going was becuase of the sub-par wages offered to fly a 74-Seat aircraft.
The Union never got voted in, and even without a Union the Committee guys said we'll fly the plane anyway. If their is a willingness to work for sub-par wages or salaries, management will always get there way.

Their are only a few Pilots at Colgan who decided it wasn't worth it to them to lower the standard and work for 50-seat pay on a 74-seat aircraft. I consider any union committee member who fought to unionize for better pay, lost, and then signed up to fly the Q400 regardless, no different then a scab crossing a picket line.

Perhaps you should shut your yap for once, try and learn something about the industry rather than preach your garbage.

"Perhaps you should shut your yap for once, try and learn something about the industry rather than preach your garbage"

"Secondly you're only an FO and don't have any say on the subject so pipe down."

"As for flame baiting, one only has to look into the mirror"

These comments are all examples of the lack of respect all too common in this forum. Can we raise the bar?

There is no lack of respect in my comment. The CA decides if a jumpseater gets on or not an FO doesn't.

We offered anyone a chance to be on the organizing committee.

You are right. Actually I was in the process of being a check airman, but because they are getting rid of my fleet type, they said, go to the Q instead

If you think we have sub-par wages, then what about our work rules. I think a union would be very beneficial in raising the bar there. Don't you? Or are you happy with our work rules?

The main reason I was fighting for a union was for protection for our medical and pilot certificates. After that a betterment of work rules and pay would be icing on the cake.

Now that would be worth writing home about if that ever does happen !

There are old pilots and bold pilots,:) but there are no old bold pilots!

Lets let this thread die peacefully so it doesnt need to be closed. It started about jumpseating between CJC and Xjet and that topic is done, now it is a flame war.

They might be phasing out the Beech 1900, but you have the option to bid an aircraft upgrade. You could of bid up to the Saab, I would of had alot more respect for you then. Don't patronize us by telling us you were "forced" into bidding the Q400. I have the company memos discussing every pilots' options.
The yapping I was referring to was your so-called education lesson to jumpseating pilots on how to adequately support they fellow pilot group. Perhaps you should ask yourself how if your doing what's best for your pilot group, because all you seem to do is criticize and talk down to people who do stand in line with your beliefs. I didn't fly the Q400 for a reason, your eagerness to fly the Q400 for the miniscual pay rise and easy commute in no way jusifies your hypocracy. Accusing pilots of not being supportive of their pilot group when what you are doing makes you worse than a scab.

How can you willing fly the Q400 after you vehemently pursued a drive to organize in hopes to improve work rules and pay???????
We don't have a union, work rules, or a competitive salary for the Q400! And your supporting that by flying it.

Seggy 04-03-2008 05:43 PM

I have the utmost respect for our pilot group. We fly in some of the hardest conditions out there and put up with a lot. I disagree on how some feel about a union, much like one disagrees with friends or family about a political view. I am very thankful for my time here, for what the Colgan family has given me, and the people I work with.

Look, I am going to fly the Q. We probably will ALL be flying the Q within a matter of a few short years. You have your view, I have mine. Just like we disagree about a union here, you disagree with those flying it.

DeadHead 04-03-2008 06:01 PM

No that's where you are 100% completly wrong I WILL NOT fly a 74 Seat aircraft for 50 seat RJ pay. I will leave Colgan and start at the bottem end of a new regional before I become part of the problem in this industry. I think the only major issue you and I disagree on is the definition of integrity.
