Now I never called you a "flower waving liberal ultra pacifist" either. I simply pointed out to you and others lurking here that this is not the only administration that has gotten us involved in something that maybe we should or should not be involved in. You can have your own opinion about whether we should or should not be there - I support that. I'll even say that you can have your own opinions about ME and my service to this country. I have my own opinions about what we should and should not be doing - and I expect you to let me have them too. All to often it is the extremists on both sides of the coin that can't seem to let the others have their opinions. They feel a necessity to change your opinion and prove to you that they are right and you are wrong. Are you one of these?

Now - back to the original subject of the thread. It is nice to be thanked for service and sacrifice. I myself am a little embarrassed by it, but I am thankful for the gratitude shown by others to me. One other on the forum said that they would give up their first class seat to a service member. Unfortunately, if in uniform we are not *suppose* to accept, being that seeing a service member in uniform sitting in first class portrays the *impression* that the military is paying for their members to fly first class. Got to watch out for the taxpayers dollar right?

In the end - to all of those that take the time to thank a vetern - thank you on our behalf. For those of you that chose not too - that is fine too. For those of you that feel some compelling reason to stomp on, snicker at, spit on, or otherwise cause trouble for following the lawful orders given to us by the ones that we have voted into office; beware! I'm trained in Semper Foo!

Agreed, if the thread stayed with thanking service men it should stay up. However, political threads do seem to come down fast. But it's actually pretty funny to watch what the mods let stay and what they let go. It is a bit of a double standard to get issued an "infraction" for something lame and have your post censored while other things just slip on by.

For some reason, I don't think that the Iraqis whose lives are being saved and cities made safer would think of it as a waste. Also, the soldiers themselves don't think of it as a waste, or why else would they continue to re-up??

 

Their sacrifice is in danger of being "wasted" only when people like you minimize the sacrifice they have made--or if we leave before the job is done. Luckily, there are enough grateful Americans to make up for your misguided notions.

For you to think that our service members need you to "save" them from the sacrifices they voluntarily undertake is presumptuous, arrogant, and insulting.

I take issue with your assertion that you have "close friends" in Iraq. I seriously doubt you would have this attitude if someone you loved was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for something he/she believed in.

 

Actually, no one ever said anti-american. More like people who broadcast their personal beliefs and state that everyone else should think the same. The right and ability to offer your opinion may be stated in the Constitution, but is continually guaranteed and protected by our military. You sound like you are having a knee-jerk reaction to justifiable criticism. While you get to have your opinion, we get to think it's wrong.

Once again I see no reason for this thread to continue down this road. I have plenty to say in regards to subject matters concerning the Iraq War, etc. but I save them for other forums. And I quote from the forum rules:

Yea both are in this thread aswell. Im thinking it is the same guy that got flamed before. No real proof of this, just my opinion.

I really see no reason to lock this thread as it has been civil and overall a good one. the intentions are good and for the most part it has stayed on topic...

Normally I wouldn't care less but a recent thread was shut down because a member asked about the stances on aviation that the presidential candidates had. I don't see how that could have escalated into a heated debate topic but nevertheless I digress. I've been an observer for a long time on this forum but always had problems with getting accepted (thank you, sir, may I have another!?) Finally after a couple tries with my companies email address, I'm on.

Slice, if the moderators aren't going to abide by their own rules, why even have any?

That's 3 whole posts now. Does that mean I "Gets Weekends Off" now? Kidding...
