Haha, i like how everyone thinks that we're no good at anything but flying and the world will come to an end if we leave.

I'm of the school of thought that if you're miserable you're miserable. Some people aren't cut out for this life, its a hard life and we have to make a lot of sacrifices to do it. Yeah we get paid to fly, but not much.

We're all smart guys and gals, there was a study a few years back concerning the level of intellect that pilots have. We're often ranked on par with doctors, lawyers and other high level professionals with regards to IQ levels. Take it with a grain of salt but its not easy getting to the airlines.

Anyone here could easily make a successful life doing something else if they put the effort into they put into flying.

Seriously thinking about it. Have been for some time. Biggest obstacle: Deciding what to do instead!

hahaha great post, how I look at.

I'm 34, probably do this a few more years. Thinking about getting the Masters degree. I fly for NetJets, great company, but I'm sick of hotels, flying in bad weather, FAA, check rides, medical exams, and all that stuff. We'll see

If you truely love flying, then dont make it a living.

Tons of other ways to make money than to push your passion to a dollar amount at the expense of friends, family, and yourself. The job could be in aviation in some other way and still make you happy.

You're not kidding! I've been so focused on flying for so long, I have no idea what I'd do otherwise. Probably a good time to start thinking about it though, just incase

Fortunately Im not burned out yet as I have only been doing the part 121 thing for a year and a half or so. I can totally see it getting to me if I let it some day. Sometimes I think what would make 121 not such a drag. Obviously we have been fighting for better pay and a less insulting QOL. That's not going to change for the better anytime soon. What would be neat would be something like "part-time" airline flying job. I have a feeling we are going to have an airline pilot "overage" in the future. Instead of burning everyone out and ruining our passion for flying they could offer a position in which you were on reserve for about 8 days a month. Say on the weekends or something. Then you could feed the passion and live a normal life. Just dreaming I know. Something interesting to think about. Seems more realistic then getting that significant pay raise we have all been waiting for.

That's exactly what I would want to do...sit on reserve on my weekends! Someone recently axed me what I would miss if I left and I thought about the pay, stability and eventually trying to support a family, hotel life (weekends and holidays), starting over every time you upgrade or leave, etc., etc., My answer was nothing.
