How Pinnacle Pilots Get a Contact
#31
Sorry guys. With the top tier regionals not hiring, new-hire classes are being filled again and the sim center in MEM can barely keep up. Lack of staffing will not get a new contract. Solidarity within the pilot group, and "bringing down the house" like ASA did is the only way. Or we can just keep our 100% completion factor and get our free pizza instead...

along these lines, I got SOO ****ed at my FO a few weeks ago. 600 hours TT *****ing he has to sit reserve and that he cant pay of his $80,000 prestigious flight school loan. So he is going to declare bankrupcy to get around paying it. I asked him if he did the math before flight school...80,000 loan paid back at 20,000 a year salary...... He asked why I am so concerned, so I said it does concern me...when I want a student loan for myself or my kids I'm going to have to pay more for it cause of punks like you who default because they dont see the big picture. He can brag about buying a new $30,000 car tho, but can't pay back the people who gave him the opportunity for this job.
It's unfortunate that pilots are our own worst enemy. However I do know that, as much as I love aviation, I would not take a ****ty $18/hour airline job just to feed my family. I would find a new career, I am too proud and love flying too much to contribute to this downward spiral caused by shiny jet syndrome, management greed and corporate incompetence, and ME and only ME attitudes I have been experiencing more and more over the recent years.

We had several people like that in our class last year. Fact is student loans are NOT dischargeable through BK. BK will not discharge student loans period.
I've heard several new people who just graduated from schools like UND and just got hired into jets saying they can't see themselves flying for the next 40 years. And they have $120,000 studenta loans!

I think that it would help us greatly for people to stop coming here, but the reality is that they will just keep cutting flight time. I've been here 6 months and still on reserve, I know I know, big deal, right? It's just the expectation versus reality thing for me.... I have a hard time with it sometimes, and that is a big part of it. 10 days off a month (which ends up being 8) is NOT enough if you commute. I don't recommend anyone come here, for their own good, not for mine or anyone else here. I will say that if people did stop coming here management would have to do SOMETHING before they get fined to death - of course we have a lot of $$$ in the bank, I know that, but it can only go on for so long.
Thoughts?

Now this is exactly what is so funny to me. New guys saying that the reason WE cant get a fair contract is because the Captains keep getting the airplanes out on time and because more new guys keep coming here.
I say again, do what we came here to do and we WILL get our contract with every penny of back pay.
It may take 30 days and 30 seconds but that's fine with me.

Nooooooooo, taking what I said, copy/pasting it outside of the context, is not the idea. What I said was clearly written. The reason they can't afford it is because they have to CONTINUE to cut flying (IE: FLIGHTS) and receive penalties for doing so. How can they expect to survive if 2/3 of the people they need actually show up in the first place to fly?? I dunno, I'm not saying it's the solution, but rather a very big factor. Supply and demand definitely is a reason why I believe what I am saying. Want pilots? Good ones that will get the job done on time, safely?? Give a good contract. Netjets did it, and look how many people they attract at each interview....

I didn't mean to say that you said that. I was trying to show that the two things that most say we should do is make our numbers terrible so management doesn't get their bonus', and don't come work for here so we have to start cancelling flights.
I disagree with both. I am saying that we remain solid and we WILL get our contract and all the back pay owed to us. Sooner or later we will be released and I believe the company will immediatly settle because they will lose more money if we walk, than if a settlement is reached.
Just my opinion and it may be wrong. I've been wrong before as many of my co-pilots have pointed out.
