Wow two threads in a row you sound like a tool....way to go.

I bet you're at an awesome airline that will never hit the skids.

We're all so proud of you.

Way to support all of your fellow pilots. At least some of whom you know. Great job man.

at TSA
The message I entered is too short and I am lengthening it by at least 10 characters.

BoredwLife 05-15-2008 03:56 PM

Im sorry to hear that. At least it should only be for a short period of time. Hopefully.

Airsupport 05-15-2008 03:57 PM

sorry to hear it atreuy. do they do the downgrades by pure seniority?

cruiseclimb 05-15-2008 03:59 PM

There was just an article in Aviation Week about the need to cut capacity in the next year in the domestic market by 20% for the airlines to become profitable. They are speculating that needs to happen in the 50 seat market. So this may start happening a little more often. Don't get too comfortable anyone. If you're flying larger acft (70+ seats), or turboprops, you have less to worry about. Can we bring back regulation?

usmc-sgt 05-15-2008 04:02 PM

Ladies and Gents,
The post in question was deleted and handled appropriately. Lets get back on topic! Most of you know what we expect at APC by now, please help educate those that are not aware of how we operate. Use the http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/im...ons/report.gif as needed to bring things to our attention.

The Juice 05-15-2008 04:15 PM

i assume your pay drops back to the FO pay for your longevity?

flynavyj 05-15-2008 04:17 PM

hadn't heard anything about it myself...Seems like it's going to take more than bidding FO lines, as you'll have to go back through and take another PC to be an FO again.....But, i'm sure i'm close to the bottom 22 captains, atleast in STL...is this a RIC thing, or a STL thing?

overall

downgrades start from the oct '06 class

Oh and also, yes, you have to go back and get right seat qual'd, then rebid as captain when they start upgrading again. After they do that, you come back and take a PC for captain

flynavyj 05-15-2008 04:31 PM

If that's the case, it'll miss me, but i'm going to be at the very very bottom of a seniority list for a while...was a sept. 06 new hire....hopefully they don't jump and put more guys back in that seat...again....best of luck bud.

much rather be at the bottom making captain pay instead of top making FO pay

AV8ER 05-15-2008 04:43 PM

I got the downgrade too.

AV8ER 05-15-2008 04:44 PM

And yes its all by seniority. RIC and STL thing.

Salukipilot4590 05-15-2008 04:46 PM

This is unreal!

flyinaway411 05-15-2008 04:47 PM

got the shaft too. THANX OIL COMPANIES!! at least their profiting!

threegreen 05-15-2008 04:47 PM

any word about lays offs (furloughs)??

Pokerpilot 05-15-2008 04:52 PM

Well, I guess I was not the only one sharing this sad news. So the big question is if they are downgrading 22 Captains to FO slot, what will happen to the 22 FO already in that slot. I hate to think of it but I feel the F_ word coming in a few months. Best of Luck

P/S Does any one have a FO Hat and Epaulet. I guess I will have to call the new hire FO to get my items back :)

reevesofskyking 05-15-2008 04:56 PM

hey guys I just heard, my friend just called me on the phone.
I am sure you guys are almost shell shocked and stunned at this point.

Really Sorry for you guys.

Ryan Reeves

flynavyj 05-15-2008 05:08 PM

Got a couple phone calls just now in confirmation. The downgrades were confirmed, and i heard the F word put out there also from one of the two sources....

Trans States however has seemed to be a spyhole for things to come....we'll see if it plays true this time also....best of luck to all of us....and to everyone else effected...at this company, and others.

WestCoaster 05-15-2008 05:11 PM

I heard the F word also today. For both TSA and Mesa...

reevesofskyking 05-15-2008 05:19 PM

I still think there is something going on.
I think it will not make any sense when it starts happening.
and it would still not surprise me if more flying showed up and now we will not be staffed for it.
It is either the crappy chilli I just ate, or my gut feeling, but this whole thing is not sitting right with me. Not just the fact people are getting downgraded, and of course that is bad, but my gut feeling is going on beyond that.

threegreen 05-15-2008 05:21 PM

so what do you think is going on reeves???

22 pilots furloughed? is that going to be the number?

reevesofskyking 05-15-2008 05:28 PM

Bud I have been watching your post since you pretty much got hired.
I think you have a good head on your shoulders, and I had been bitting my tounge about you being the pool. I really think that you should do you best to stay in contact with them and check in every once and a while. since I have been there I have never heard talk of a hiring pool. They always told me they only knew thier needs a month or two in advance. My advice to you is to explore your options and keep focused on the long run. I would greatful to have in our pilot group, but it looking like its not your turn yet.

To answer your question. I just dont know, and there are so many more SR guys on here that have been here for mulitple years with ages more experince with the company that I do. I can only really offer you speculation, today, tomorrow, the rest of the year the pilot group does not want speculation coming from the mouth of an FO. Today all I have is a gut feeling. I dont know what that means yet. Right now, I want to say and feel there will not be a forlough, at the same time I am afriad I will be proven wrong.

To you, and all others, Hang in there. Try to stay in your comfort zone whether it be here on the forums to talk among coworkers, family. doesnt matter where

Reeves

threegreen 05-15-2008 05:34 PM

Reeves,

I guess i am just wayyyyy to eager to get going with this entire "airline" thing...I am not keeping my eggs in pone basket. I got an Interview with Comair and PDT coming up. Who ever gives me a class date first thats where you will find me.

PS
i emailed Kathay today

reevesofskyking 05-15-2008 05:35 PM

If you insist on being in this industry, that is not a bad attitude to start with. You still have time to learn and change your views.
Bust of luck

POPA 05-15-2008 06:33 PM

Flynavy, I ran into a couple guys from our new-hire class who said they expect to be on RSV as captains for the next year or so. I guess everybody from the training department has been sent back to the line, including our dear friend Sir Mix-a-lot. Anybody I know been downgraded that you've heard of?

Salukipilot4590 05-15-2008 06:40 PM

You know I actually liked being on reserve a whole lot. If all that happened was I spent the next few months on reserve I would be one happy black guy. I really hope the F word doesnt actually happen. I mean we're supposed to be doing MIA flying next month and all and UA is supposed to be ramping up as well. Even then with current lines being around 93 hours we could just bring those down to not F pilots.

Then again I'm so new in the game I dont even know whats going on outside of the cockpit.

reevesofskyking 05-15-2008 06:52 PM

that is kinda what I was thinking too, why not just knock them down to the CBA min line build and keep everyone on staff and ride this storm out, if not ride out it ride to see if gets worse

bryris 05-15-2008 07:08 PM

Damn. This sucks! I might have to go back to my previous profession soon. I hope not. Been a hell of a ride so far though no matter what happens. But, I am halfway up the FO list, I sure hope that is high enough to ride this out. I am afraid the "pilot shortage" doesn't exist and never will. We're all out there fighting over the same damn steak, I'm afraid.

AV8ER 05-15-2008 07:23 PM

The rumor (and its a rumor) over on the lounge is 70-80 f.rl..s are coming.

145mule 05-15-2008 07:24 PM

I am also afraid. I hope that the F word does not come to fruition. Does anyone know how many in the April class made it to the sim or have made it through the sim?

flynavyj 05-15-2008 07:25 PM

nah popa, everyone from our class SHOULD be exempt from the problems (except those who never got the chance to upgrade in the first place). I just finished my CA PC, and have been on reserve since i started, so, it's six months and counting right now.....I'm sure I won't be seeing a line before the year is up now, before hand, i was kinda hopefully if things turned around, or if we gained more flying, we'd sit pretty, but, that is in the can right now.....

I was almost thinking that management curbed their hiring quickly enough to avoid something like this, but i'm thinking it might have more to do with poor (at risk) flying that we don't want to do anymore, than it does with actual planning purposes....
