Hey Skywest Pilots,

The next time you're in the crew room, ask around, you'll find quite a few pilots that were MAG pilots. A good number of your captains were trained, helped and encouraged by MAG instructors and senior captains. Some left for a different pay scale, many left because the East coast wasn't their thing...

After the attacks seven years ago, MAG was one of the first airlines to rehire and begin new hires, so for many the choice to work for Mesa wasn't just a choice, it was the only choice...

I have jumpseated on many different airlines in my part 121 years. MAG pilots are no different than others...

I am curious about one thing regarding the contract that new hires sign regarding paying back training costs should they leave. What if they are forced out due to chapter 11 furloughs, or the airline liquidates? Could the creditors committee then argue that the pilots are indebted to them since the pilots were unable to complete their contract terms (i.e. provide X years of service as a pilot to Mesa)? This seems a sticky situation.
Would you sign a contract that said if you lost your job involuntarily (termination, furlough), that you would still be required to pay back the terms? I sure as hell wouldn't! I haven't seen the contract with my own eyes, but I guarantee that they are free and clear in that case...

Yeah, it only applies to voluntary terminations. Even if you screw up and get fired, you won't have to pay on the training contract.

Don't act like such a victim. Where should you go???? Why don't you ask the 100's of pilots who went elsewhere instead of staying at JO's sinking ship asking everyone how to get out? Man up and do your own research

The key word is "temporary" as far as the injunction is concerned. Delta Airlines will grind Mesa Air Group to pulp and dragged them down. Ornstein is fooling himself and his employees by thinking Delta won't fight this to the end.

Ok, temporary injunction. What does that mean in the short term. Does DAL have to put Freedom back on the routes?

I had 7 former MAG pilots in my Skywest Class. All nice guys. They all had terrible stories to tell about MAG, its management and the treatment they received. They had been at MAG from 1 to 4 years but had enough.

I dont believe any pilot from any other company would say any negative about MAG pilots but we have all heard the stories from former MAG pilots about the treatment over there. Many wisely got out of there in time. To say negative things about MESA and the way it is operated does not mean having anything negative against the pilots.

It means that DAL cannot terminate the contract yet. However...the existence of the contract or the injunction does NOT mean that the airplanes have to fly.

DAL has already adjusted their schedule, and will not fly empty airplanes. The most likely outcome is that DAL makes a deal with JO to park the airplanes, but still pay JO approximately enough to cover his expenses and what he would have made in profit if the flying had continued.

The airplane lease/mortgage payments have to be made, as well as a few other fixed costs. But by parking the airplanes, DAL will save on fuel, crew payroll, and other costs. Jo will still get his costs and maybe some profit, but without the liability exposure of actually flying airplanes, and without the hassle of dealing with all of those pesky employees...not a bad deal for him.

If mesa ultimately wins the lawsuit, then DAL can either buy him out, or re-instate the flying at that time. I'm pretty sure they will just buy him out in, since they don't need the airplanes flying, and can't afford the fuel.

I'm guessing they will have this all hashed out by monday, and will furlough asap.
