I will. In any business, market share is gained at the expense of someone losing market share. Well if you say so, everyone should just stagnate their growth. Companies go out of business and those customers should just go unserved.

 

yep that's a really good thing you guys have going at the regionals. maybe the majors can adopt your kind of thinking. what a glorious day that would be. I'm sure our pay could really tank then.

I'm sure there will be a day when someone is licking there chops to take your flying. who knows maybe it will be mesa....

 

The thing you have to ask yourself is "what are the pilots doing to be responsible for that growth"

If XJT takes a contract from TSA or Mesa but the pilots don't change anything in the CBA, yeah it sucks for the jobs that were lost - but at the end of the day there are more higher-paying jobs, with a better contract in the marketplace. Who is to blame for the jobs lost at TSA and Mesa in this case? Management.

If Mesa goes bankrupt and XJT picks up flying that was theirs and it is flown by pilots with a stronger contract consisting of better pay and work rules, then even though it is too bad jobs were lost at the end of the day the "shuffle" would be better for the profession - I can promise you I wouldn't be cheering on the sidelines while this was taking place.

If a pilot group agrees to a pay-freeze or a concessionary contract in order to gain flying or "help get aircraft online" or whatever else then you can blame the pilots and call them "undercutters" or whatever floats your boat... Just don't misuse the "S" word.

IF that were to happen, we wouldn't need to be represented by the same union but we would need close to identical contracts or the whipsawing would continue.

 

Along those lines.... CAL's management is directly responsible for any furloughs of CAL pilots.

When they decided to make XJT their own company, they also lost the option to "flush-back" to the regional level to avoid unemployment. I do not know the history well enough to know if it was a pilot group vote.... but in the end it is either CAL management or the CAL pilots who are to blame for the unfortunate pilots who are left on the street.

While I am thrilled to know that we (XJT) are still in business for the next 7 years .... many of my friends from XJT will be the pilots without jobs. Our success comes with carefully guarded celebration and respect for those who will suffer from CAL's 11% domestic reduction.

In the end I suspect our line values will drop to guarantee, and we may see the return of long sits mid-day.

Must make you feel like a big man to crap on those insolent Regional pilots for daring to be happy to have a job after facing certain furlough. I bet you wore your flight suit to the bar too.

 

I guess you just don't care about whipsawing pilots around. sad because most do(only when it negatively affects them of coarse). maybe we could just start putting all flying up for bid and start new airlines every few years. maybe we could start airlines within airlines. brilliant!!!

Your kidding right? The 145 XR's are losing money even while being subsidized by a great CAL contract, and you want them to repaint 135's with a, as the press release said, a much more competitive CAL contract? I'm no finance expert, but this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Legacy carriers can't justify 135's even with the idea of making up the loss on the international routes.

 

Well, I guess as good Union pilots, we'll just petition management to stop growing the company. That's the ticket! I've seen the err of my ways, I will repent at the altar of Frank Lorenzo.
