if we are now talking uniforms the men's shirts suck. they are made for fat bastard. choose a neck size and that shirt is suppose to fit all people. my (larger) buddy wore an old uniform for halloween and the shirt fit fine but the jacket made him look like a fat man in alittle coat.

ps does anyone really like the hat. it makes for a nice tray through the xray machine though.

In theory what you propose would be a huge step in putting everyone on equal footing but the reality is that it still wouldnt happen and if would be difficult for an HR company to enforce. The reason is that pilots are not hired simply off of hours. There is an interview process where the company tries to get a feel for the guy and make sure they're not hiring some moron with 5000 hrs. Unfortunately this is very subjective. How well you relate to the interviewer or how well they think you would fit in begins to be a factor and then you're right back to square one. It becomes an even bigger issue in other careers where its not so easy to rack and stack people's qualifications and it becomes even more subjective. The reality is that in every industry a lot of people get hired because of some connection. I know several white men who have a job that they would have never gotten if they hadnt been buddies with the right person (and i one case the son). These guys are going about their business without anyone being ****ed or looking at them as if they took some more qualified persons spot (even though they did). I guarantee you if stacked all the hours for new hires at major carrier that you would find more white males hired with 2-3000 hours (or low time) while other white males with 5000+ (who had no contact) are sitting at home waiting on a phone call....

Affirmative action, quotas, and minorities are easy targets because we can see them easily and they are written laws and policies. However, far more jobs are given those white males who have a unwritten inside track than the small percentage given to minorites...if you dont believe me look at the flight decks. So if you're ****ed that your 5k hours isnt getting you a job its understandable to be upset with quotas but share that anger against the hundreds of other white guys who got ahead of you too b/c dad played golf with the chief pilot....
Yep, not too happy with the people who get where they are only because daddy hooked 'em up. They get as much respect as the people who get in by affirmative action. It is too bad that you see others as all racist bastards. I think the vast majority of interviewers don't credit, or discredit applicants because they are black, brown, green, yellow, orange, white, male, female, or alien. Most people really do care most about the quality of the person. I think the fact is most pilots are white males simply because the majority of people choosing this career path are white males. There is no great conspiracy. HR people normally work in an office and don't give a damn about the pilots or who they know. If given the task, it wouldn't be hard for them to look at resumes, and objectively pick the most qualified applicants. Everyone has to Earn respect, it cannot be given by any preference program, written or otherwise.

Why is no one fighting to put different "colors" in basketball?? Where are the asia and middle east influence?? Why does that not make the news? It doesn't realy matter if you can shoot a 3 pointer.

I see, not gona fight for somthing that isn't right... unless it benifits YOU.

I had the same problem with my uniforms too. I discovered that's why God created tailors. They do wonders with Uniforms and Shirts. They can even do wonders with the inside of the dork hat too.

By the way chicks dig the hat especially if you have the scrambled eggs or lightning bolts on the bill. But do stay away from the patent leather, or Frankenstein type shoes though… chicks don’t dig that.

akpilot7 please keep your posts less personal. Generalizations work, you don't have to single out people and bad mouth them. Your Mother should have told you "if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all". We all know who you are talking about, and I may not disagree, but it was uncalled for on a public forum such as this.

Yeah guys, we have to keep the dialog on a professional and unpersonal (attack) level. This forum provides a venue for us to express our opinions, experiences and hopes to discuss and possibly even resolve an issue that may not immediately affect the industry as a whole right now, but maybe in the future; but its got to start somewhere. APC is a good place to start.

Hopefully, there are others who are monitoring this site that will chime in and contribute to the discussion.

Please dont put words into my mouth. At no point in either of my post did I accuse anyone of being a "racist bastard" or anything similar. In fact, in my first post I said that is was NOT racism and that there was NOT any conspiracy. In addition, I think I clearly point out that I think its understandable why some white males are bitter against affirmative action.

My main point was that people often get angry at minorities or AA because they feel like they took their job but the reality is that far more less qualified white males take jobs because of inside connections than are given through AA. So acknowledge that most of the less qualified applicants who get hired are NOT minority. The problem is although you say you're not happy with people who get in through daddy the reality is that you frequently dont know who they are. When they sit in the seat next to you it is assumed that they are just as qualified as you are. Nobody comes and post threads that say "Daddy's boys and airline jobs". Instead people vent on that very small percentage of minorities who got helped by AA.

As for HR departments hiring objectively that would work on Utopia but here on Earth is wouldnt be as easy. Its still very subjective. In addition, every flight hour is not equal. 2000 hrs flying a small multiengine airplane around Texas doesnt equal 2000 hrs flying jumbo jets worldwide which isnt the same as 2000 hours doing military pilot instruction and on and on...So once again there is some human subjectively saying this guy is better than that one. Unfortunately, any time humans are involved (regardless of race) there will be bias, favoritism, and under the table deals. In our society those deals tend to favor the white male. If this country were 80% black then it would favor the black male and we would need AA for anyone not black...I'm sure you would still disagree with it though...
