Colgan Service Reduction
#22
According to the conference call seniority will govern any furloughs meaning regardless of equipment your in your sen # will determine your fate. But who knows, without a contract the company could opt to save money and do whatever they please. Time will tell.

Why does your company make you ride up front when you arw DEADHEADING, bump a pax, why should you guys have to squeeze up front
SO far three Deadhead guys who have had top sit up front have been great guys though

In the past couple of months I've had both USAir and Continental gate agents in two different cities try to put must rides in the jumpseat when I was trying to commute to avoid bumping passengers. The guys deadheading were even willing to take the spot in front of me, until the Capt. got word of it.

Unfortunately I doubt Colgan will furlough out of seniority. I think what will more than likely be the case will be they will furlough out of Saab seniority.
I think the reason they are saying this now is to appease the masses because if you think of it the fuloughs would happen just barely after the union vote and they already know it will go through this year and by saying they will furlough out of seniority they will be absolutely guaranteeing that it goes through with flying colors.
If you think about it of those being furloughed probably 30-40 will be Q guys which colgan can not afford to lose. If they lose them they will be ok if they transition the 30-40 saab guys that they need but they can not afford to lose them until we lose the planes. So basically we lose the planes, we furlough Q guys and go understaffed and can not fly, the saab guys go to training and we have a two month gap before they arrive.
We all know Colgan and we all know that deep down they will NOT do the right thing. Ive got around 120 below me so I may get that vacation sooner than I thought.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. Hopefully they will honor their word. If that happens, I'll probably get downgraded and then lose my base. Though the right seat re-qual ride/PC would be fun. I would intentionally suck worse that anything they've ever seen.
But in fairness, from what I have seen they've honored seniority to this point.

Yeah, I can't believe that they would actually respect seniority, especially considering many of the new guys are on the Q400. I'd be surprised if it was anything other than just furloughing Saab crews, CAs and FOs in equal numbers. And of course, the CAs they will get rid of will be relatively junior street CAs (including yours truly), so they won't have to worry about furloughing a fairly senior guy.
Dang! And I thought flying props these days would be advantageous...

What do you guys make of commutair picking up flying out of ewr. Mostly cities that the q is serving. Do you think that this is in place of the q400 or in addition to.
This reduction is a bad situation for every one. I for one truly hope that they honor their word. I am about 45 seats back from upgrade. I would rather get the opportunity to upgrade but I will learn to fly another airplane if I need to. I just don't want to have to sign another training contract.
Iquiteagle, I hope everything works out for you, I truely enjoyed the opportunity to fly with you and I learned alot over the course of our trip.

I know this company has a track record of treating us poorly, but honestly I don't see a reason for them to go back on their word. It's not like they let anyone down softly during the conference call... they basically said in furloughing by seniority that it's going to be the Q F/O's out on the street for the most part. I don't know how that is appeasing to anyone.
If they were going to furlough out of seniority they would have just never had a conference call and come November put out a memo stating out of operational necessity and training costs they'll be furloughing out of equipment and not seniority immediately.
