The new hires today are expected to do the same things as everyone else who has been hired here. Frankly, I think that many of the washes didn't take the training as seriously as they should have. And now that we are getting higher time and experienced candidates, the pass rate will increase.

For those of you who want to apply, do it. Don't let the fear of failure stop you. Either you can do it or you are not quite ready. Be honest with yourself. Just don't think that we suddenly are looking to wash pilots we hired at the time we need them most. Lakes still has the same standards.

I applied because with the high wash rate, I want to know if I'm good enough. I love a challenge. I guess thats why I stay in this line of work :D

I don't know if this was mentioned but they want you to fly to Den on your dime. I said thanks no thanks.....

Thats kind of a lame reason not to interview, just about everyone who has worked here or are working here had to do it.

I see your point if you live further away from Denver than others might. But, it is a tax deduction and at this time beggers cant be choosers. My current carrier has jump agreements that will get me to Vegas, so I have to buy a round trip from vegas-denver.
I'm just waiting for a call from GLA.....

just cuz eveyone else has done it, doesnt make it right... some people out there prolly cant afford to drop a couple hundred bucks on a roundtrip ticket for the chance to go work for $16 an hour

Well dont know how true this is but my buddy said they set you up in the sim doing and NDB app then engine faliure, collecting ice, boots dont work and you have minimum fuel.

What airline would dispatch to an airport below mins with forecast icing, mechanical deferrals, and no alternate fuel?

What professional pilot would accept the flight?

Or does the scenario assume everything was OK when you left, then the weather gets worse and stuff starts to break in route, and you decide to "press on" to the destination?

I'm assuming everything was A-ok before takeoff and then the chips start falling...

Dispatch to an airport below mins AND no alternate fuel.... no airline would do that because IT'S ILLEGAL!! And you're right, no profesional (smart) pilot would except that release. However, it's called scenario based traning and to see you under pressure.

Icing is real world,
Mechanical deferals (MEL's) are real world,
And equipment breaking is real world,
Welcome to the airlines.

I received confirmation from my buddy. They set you up on a normal flight you go missed from intended airport then it drops below IFR mins. Next your diverted to alternate and thats when the Sh** hits the fan.
The Air Force used to do this to evaluate how you balanced each problem and the order of importance you put them in. Well thats the skinny on it.

i choose to shoot that same approach again this time droppin enough below mins for the runway to appear. just make sure you have those needles pinned dead center!! :) i mean, come on, whats the worst that can happen?
