I own a small freight company and our truckers are limited to 11hrs driving and 3hrs on duty time not driving in a 24 hr period. Then they have to take a mandatory 10hr break in the 24hr period. And after I believe it is a 70 to 80 hr week they have to take a mandatory 34hr break.

I believe the crew on the AA MD-80 accident in Little Rock, Arkansas, a few years ago had been on duty approximately 14+ hours..........and the WX they were flying into was horrible. As always, NOTHING was done. If you're waiting for our government (specifically the FAA) to do something, you're better off waiting for hell to freeze over...................

Obviously our congressmen are busy with something else right now so I am not sure any letters to them would get looked at right now. Would someone who just recently left the industry please go to the press. This needs to get more publicity to the people that depend on us.

Perhaps I just don't understand. Was the accident a result of the crew being tired or a result of them goofing around, showing each other the nastiest porn they could find on their phones and missing a stop signal? I wonder if it was found that a captain was texting even five minutes prior to crashing short of the runway if we would get new crew rest rules or just get lambasted for being spoiled and irresponsible.

Well if they got paid for 70-80 hrs I my self would be out in the truck! Our drivers are paid by the loaded mile, since they are sub contractors, now company drivers get paid all miles. Just imagine if pilots got paid by the mile, even for commuting witch I would say that would be like deadhead miles for a driver!

Well 2 guys in Hawaii in recent months both fell asleep, and though I don't know the exact circumstances, I don't believe there are any major changes in any work rules as a result. I would hope it was at least looked into. Thank god that situation played out the way it did and not in tragedy, because that's unfortunately about what it will take for the feds to make changes.
