Some people just need to calm down and be patient. They will get to you when they get to you and there is nothing you can do to speed up the process. HR is busy and they will get to them at some point.

I can't imagine what some people here would be like sitting in the airplane waiting for someone to pull up the jet bridge in DTW. It takes forever and complaining won't make them move any faster even if you can see the gate agent talking to friends at the gate.

Ok, here is what I've learned in professional writing classes geared towards writing cover letters and resumes. In your cover letter you really want to, in a way, kiss up to the company. You should do this by saying how great of a pilot group it is, how good the safety record at the company is, so on and so on. For this, some research on the company is crucial. I noticed in yours you tired to do this, but you always went back to "me." The "me" stuff should mostly be saved for the resume. Be sure not to make your resume too long with stuff that just looks like you are padding it with useless stuff. And as always read over everything 100 times, then get someone else to read it 100 time, then read it again to check for any grammar mistakes. I am not going to go through your cover letter with a fine tooth comb, but there were a few mistakes you would want to take care of. Good luck and I hope this helps.

This is the exact cover letter I sent Mesaba. Its not the greatest but I don't think its horrible and it worked I guess since I got hired....

While on your company website it came to my attention that Mesaba Airlines was interested in hiring first officers for your aircraft. I am writing to express my interest in a first officer position with Mesaba Airlines. I can begin employment with the company as of **********.

When looking over my resume please note the first officer position I currently hold as well as my past position as a flight instructor. My job as a first officer is a professional position which requires my full attention and dedication. My dedication I have showed that company as well as any company I have worked for has paid off with much recognition such as employee of the month and quarter as well as promotion opportunities. In *****, I received my bachelor’s degree in ****** and I am ready to take on the extremely important and rewarding position of a first officer with Mesaba Airlines.

Working for ******* Airlines as a first officer has made me the professional person and pilot I am today. I believe with my experience as an employee there and with my CRJ experience that I would have a smooth transition to Mesaba Airlines and would be a great addition to the company. I would appreciate an opportunity to meet with you and discuss my qualifications and to learn more about the position opportunity. I may be reached at (555) 555-5555 or ********@*****.com

Make life easy for the person who decides if you should be interviewed. He or she is reading hundreds of these things each day. The last thing they want is another application full of platitudes and glittering generalities.

The cover letter should effectively say, "I want to work for Mesaba, meet all of the qualifications, and desire the opportunity to prove my worth in an interview.

Anyone under thirty probably hasn't done enough to warrant a resume over one page in length. Don't repeat anything that is in the cover letter or Mesaba application. Redundant information shows a lack of organizational skills. Don't pad.

Patronizing platitudes (How wonderful Mesaba is) puts a ? on your credibility. How do you know ? You don't work here.

Keep all paperwork short, to the point, and honest. Write for your audiance (HR screeners) - not the Chief Pilot. THe HR screener makes three piles - definitely yes, definitely no, and maybe. It's the last one that might get a higher level or pilot review for decision.

Background - A decade of management for restaurant, retail, then flight schools? Do they think I DON'T want to fly?

Grades - Horrible in High school, but HONORS in College and GRAD SCHOOL!

Work History - See above

Activities outside flying - listed on resume: Interests - Aviation, sports, guitar, piano, foreign languages, history. (I didn't list the volunteer work in prisons, orphanages, and church.)

Maybe they think I would be bored as a regional pilot? Maybe because my MBA is pending they think I will leave when it is completed? No way. My MBA is a fall-back plan. Plus, I always want to keep learning.
I just wish I knew what I could do to get an interview because I believe that I am passionate and teachable and would do whatever it takes.

Sorry for putting half of my resume here, but I am eager for feedback. Thanks for helping.
Maybe there are just people out there with more flying experience looking for work.

I hope you didn't cut and paste from your cover letter or resume.
