And well, now that you mentioned it, if they dont want to be bothered, they should just say so. I would really prefer that guys just tell me if they don't want ALPA. When I know for certain that someone is anti-alpa, I don't even bring up the subject. I flew with our alpa hater captain (with whom I disagree extremely) for a few days and I had a great time with him, no "tension" because both of us knew each other's positions so we never brought up the topic. I only talk about alpa if they seem ambiguous or if they are supporters like me. If someone tells me that they're supportive (but they're really not), I'll continue to discuss colgan/alpa if it comes up (which it comes up frequently now due to getting screwed/daily new msgs from mgmt/etc.) At that point, the other pilot would probably start getting annoyed and thus even more turned off by alpa, while I'm unknowingly wasting my time wondering why this guy said he supported it but doesnt act like it - is it because he needs more reasons?
How self-defeating is that for the guy who just wanted to be left alone in the first place?

Yeah but we continued to be bothered by all the Buddy and Dean emails we get on a daily basis sent to our email. I never signed up for Anti ALPA updates to be sent to my personal email.

Does that mean you're not supporting the effort to improve our QOL?

I don't think that's what he was getting at there. He was simply saying that everyone is entitled to their own opinion ... that's all ... at least I think. I hope I'm not backing someone up and turns out I didn't know what he was talking about, haha. Union or not, I think everyone at Colgan would like to improve our QOL ... they just have their own visions on how to go about doing it ... some more legit than others probably ... but to each his own.

I was at Colgan for 2 years, 1 of which was a SAAB Captain. Now I'm furloughed from CAL Mainline. Like it or not, ALPA/A union is the only way to actually have your voice heard and be treated fairly.
In my short time online at CAL I saw a CA get violated because he landed off centerline. Yep believe it or not. The FAA was near the runway and violated the CA. It was a windy day and they violated him. ALPA made a few calls and it was gone. Imagine having your lively hood take away from you for landing an airplane safely, however just 10 feet off the runway centerline on a gusty day.
It's not just about better pay and work rules, it's about their legal department, aeromedical services and Capitol Hill voice. It's a tool that you pay a monthly fee for.
Is ALPA the end all, be all? No, of course not. It will take a long time straighten things out there. Maybe you think you won't be here long enough to reap the benefits you paid for. Well when you move on to a major, who does have a union, you will benefit from those pilots who did labor to get those excellent work rules and good pay. It's not about you, it's about us, as the profession.
I ask all of you to vote and not buy into the management propoganda that is circulating. Pinnacle Pilots don't want your flying. They just want to protect theirs. Be smart and think about the guys behind you.
When I was at Colgan we had to fight for pay credit and hotels that were due to us. This is a profession! You DO NOT have to deal with that. And don't buy into the fact that if you vote in ALPA you won't get more flying. That is a lie. Not the Colgan family anymore people.
Ultimately it is your decision FlyGuyNiner, good luck.

Some people are too passionate about their own opinions and forget to respect others' rights to vote. The entire pilot group has a voice which is heard in numbers by a vote, silencing or discrediting any one of those voices is wrong any way you look at it and is counterproductive to the very purpose of a union in the first place.
Had a good stretch at Colgan myself, definitely agree with most people here that it's probably time the pilots got organized.
Voting the union in is one thing though, ensuring you have the right people representing you is another thing. I know I wasn't too happy with some of the people who were on the organizing committee when I was there, and I hope those people aren't making a run at getting themselves elected.
Best of luck to all my ex-fellow Colgan pilots, you guys are a great bunch and definitely deserve something better.
