[quote=TurboFan;507294]I went to Mesa Pilot Development in Farmington, NM (Mesa Pilot Development Program). I wouldn't recommend going there these days, but I went from no flight experience into the right seat of the CRJ in 14 months. Never instructed. I've heard every angle of the time/no-time debate, but with over 1,500 in the CRJ I haven't killed anyone yet!

How much in debt were you when you came out? and... what can you do with that degree when you're furloughed? The best advice is to not reccomend ANY aviation college.

How many people flying right alongside you were hired off the street without having gone through their in-house affiliated program? Does it work, yes.... but it isn't worth it in most cases.

5 years of part time instructing, a couple of years flying traffic watch included. I had about 1500 total and 200 multi with over a 1000 hours of dual given when I got my first regional job. My sim partner was from MAPD with about 250 hours and washed out of training.

I'm not going to answer any of your questions based on the ignorance of this statement. When I get furloughed?

Can I also get the winning PowerBall numbers since you seem to be able to predict the future?!?

I got an aviation degree (wouldn't recommend one either), but when I got furloughed I got another aviation job. Seems pretty straightforward.

No CFI. Hired onto a regional with 2600hrs. I owned most of the planes that I flew. Not the cheapest way to an airline job, but then, that wasn't my goal.

I hope that this is sarcasm. If you're serious this is some serious flamebait.

Just in case you aren't aware ... I'd say about 90% of people that go through college have debt ... and sometimes a LOT of it. A higher education isn't cheap, no matter what degree you pursue.

Oh, and as for the aviation degree ... I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I would guess almost half of the pilots out there these days have a degree in an aviation related field. There are a few that feel it's better to go out and get a different degree and do flying on the side yes. But there are also those (myself included) that would have rather shot themselves than go pay money to study something there weren't interested in. If you're not interested in what you're studying you're never going to get through it.

To back you up though. I'm fully planning on going back to get a second degree in Meteorology sometime in the not too distant future because yes ... I believe if one were to get furloughed/lose their medical, one would be in a world of hurt.

I guess I'm a 10 percenter. No debt from college or flying (never had any....worked my way through school and flying as a ramper, ticket agent and then as a flight attendant) and a non-aviation related degree from a state university.
