Default Mesa job posting

I saw on the website that they are looking for street captains. I heard of JFK being one of the bases. I was hoping someone would be able to provide more information on the job. Thanks.

They are looking for Dash-8 CAs and FOs to fly under their Delta codeshare.

Domiciles: Norfolk, VA; Philadelphia, PA; Syracuse, NY; Albany, NY; Providence, RI; Windsor Locks, CT; Richmond, VA; Baltimore, MD; and probably a JFK domicile for reserves.

I know the union is trying to get most or all of those from internal upgrades by removing equipment and seat locks as well as possibly waving previous training contracts for those already at Mesa. If all of this happens I don't think they will have any trouble getting enough captains. However I also heard all the F.O.s would be coming off the street as oppose to transfering any current employee's. I hope this helps some. We will all know something as soon as this next bid gets posted.

Beagle,

If you want to do it...go apply.

The internal upgrades are not going to cover all the CA positions they need. Most jet FOs won't do the upgrade, even with the seat lock and minimums waivers.

Just be sure you want to work for Mesa.

Well I know they're not on the top of everyone's list of carriers. But if I could get the JFK base I would not be commuting anymore and into the left seat of a good airplane.

If you want to live in that area it would be a sweet deal. Most current jet FO's won't take it because because the pay increase would be marginal and the QOL would go way down unless they already live in NY/NJ.

If you want fast 121 PIC, go for it.

I looked into this a little further and found out that even though there will be Dash-8s operating out of JFK the pilot base will not be JFK. Nobody will be assigned to JFK. Instead you'll have to be assigned to another base (e.g. BDL, PVD, ALB, etc.) and report at that base. As a result commuting out of JFK will not really work well because if you need to report early in the morning, in PVD say, there won't be any flight that can take you there on that day.

The other thing that I've heard is that you can't necessarily bid for the Dash-8 CA if you are a jet FO. This is due to the FO's equipment and seat locks. Actually, there is talk about B1900 FOs being allowed to bid for the F8 CA spot but as it stands now this is not permitted by the contract.

I got my information from a friend who just started with Mesa and he is trying to figure things out himself so he is not the most reliable source. If anyone can correct me please do so.

P.S. Mesa must be pretty desperate to find CA for the Dash-8, as there are rumors they'll drop the ICAO ATP minimums. Instead you you'll just need FAA ATP minimums for the Dash-8 CA position.

They have tentatively released the seat locks on the CRJ FO and 1900 FO & CA, but not the ERJ.

I suppose the ICAO mins are not an issue since they appear to flying domestic only. They are probably assuming that all their FAA-only captains will have ICAO times by the time DAL decides to send them to the great white north.

Hey thanks for the info.... I've got a few things lined up before I would consider taking the dash job. I've got plenty of time so I dont think the mins would be a problem.
