Flight Attendant in uniform drinking @ IAD 1/10/2009
#11
Very True. While most organizations (trucking companies, airlines, etc) frown on drinking in uniform, the military has traditions going back thousands of years. We inherited ours from the brits, they got them from the Romans. It is no longer PC to loot and pillage while drinking in uniform, however.

how exactly does what hotel it was make a difference?
I'm with the rest of the guys here on the issue of professionalism... It's a rather double edged sword. I think if she was sitting there blabbing out what company she worked for it would be like "um, ***?" But it is a different animal since it was a FA and not a Pilot. A FA isn't in charge of keeping the plane and passengers safe in the air. She is in charge of making sure the pax obey the seat belt sign, sterile cockpit procedures (electronics mainly), and provide guidance and help during an emergency situation.
If it were a pilot, that would be a "ok, now *** are you doing here pal? Go change and then come back to enjoy your damn beer". If I were a pax seeing something like that I would be thinking, "i hope i'm not on your flight tomorrow"
Drinking in a military uniform and a pilot uniform are completely different stories

I know it's hard to believe but that actually is their primary job. What does pilot/FA have anythin to do with it? They are crew members in charge of pax safety, in many cases during crashes FAs have been primary life savers. Think of it in terms of the pax. If your FA was half wasted, would you want her/him on your flight?

Point missed!
Why was the F/A served alcohol while still in uniform?
Bit irresponsible on the bartender's part I would say !
What the hell ever happened to common sense and responsiblity and I,m talking about both side's of this incident from the bartender to the F/A .

Wow. Imagine how stupid this FA must be. What else must be going through your brain if the voices in your head even remotely convince you to drink in uniform at the hotel BAR. I would definitely do something about it even if it's not your company. The pax deserve better than a moron in charge of their safety.

Devils Advocate
And what make's some in here think that pax cannot figure out for themselves how to get out of an a/c in an emergency situation?
It,s not like a whole lot of ppl have not traveled by air now is it ?

Didn't know where to post this one, as I was truly shocked....
Staying at a certain hotel @ IAD that is used by a lot of crews (Trans States, Mesa, and at least a couple of majors)
I went down to the restaurant to pick up dinner (take out). The restaurant is mostly a bar. When I sat down to order dinner, I saw a flight attendant in uniform dress sitting at the bar. I thought it was kind of weird, but thought maybe she was in a rush, and at this hotel, the "restaurant portion" is always closed for private functions. Well, bartender serves FA a tall beer, which FA starts drinking at the bar. She then starts talking to her neighbors about which airline she works for, what equip she flew in on, how long she has worked for airline, etc.
So my question to you, is what would you do? I didn't get a pic, would be too hard, but she told her airline and equip type, as well as where she is from, etc. I still couldn't believe what I saw. I obviously work for a regional, and while not acceptable, could see this happening at a regional. Was shocked to see this with a mainline FA.
