Quote: I saw a report that said there was "an off-duty pilot" that was not accounted for at first (jumpseater?).

Sad, sad day. Thoughts and prayers to all my brothers and sisters at Colgan....
From what I gather, it was 44 pax, four crew, one on the ground, plus one JSer.
Quote: I logged on today to see what people had to say, and I'm astounded. We have a CFI speculating on skill level loss due to flying part 121 with an autopilot. We have someone who is at least apearring to possibly fly an A320 who thinks he is immune to any misfortunes due to his immense experience and size of his airplane. And someone mentioning payscales?! This is unbelievable. People log on to these places to read this stuff. The media reads this stuff. Friends of those pilots are on here. None of us are invincible or perfect. Until the NTSB proclaims the cause, let's just take a moment and remember the lives lost.

Pittdave79, maybe if your first post on APC were this thoughtful and articulate, your credibility and respect wouldn't be in tatters.
Quote: Maybe you can find a local reporter to share your expertise with. I'm sure they'd love to hear speculation from a real live airline pilot.
I'm not giving any speculation but for crying out loud we're suppose to not converse about anything for fear of who's watching? That defeats the purpose of a public forum. We're all pilots here to talk about a crash and relay pertinent information as we find it to one another. Any media outlet that used something found here is nothing but idiots. I find it hard to believe that for first hand information instead of going to the companies/FAA/NTSB/bystandards they come to a forum and look at the gossip of people spread all over the country.

The weatherman on CNN right now is completely missing the ball on this one.
Thoughts and prayers to those affected.

I'm off to the airport to sit ready... Everyone stay safe out there.
There's too much bickering on here, it's too early to speculate of what happened or to criticize. It could've had to do with the weather or mechanical problems or something else, nobody really knows right now. Nobody likes to hear about something like this, why not try to keep it respectful and civil for once. Thoughts and prayers for the crew, passengers and their families.
This thread needs to be closed before more bickering, speculating, or debating continues ... this was supposed to be a thread for mourning the loss of our friends and family at Colgan Air and the pax and civilians that lost their lives
So, in effect, you saying that just because the plane is equipped and certified for icing (no....really????????????), that automatically makes it a safe situation? Given what I've heard, nobody had any business flying in or out of buf at the time.
On the contrary, there was nothing going on in or around BUF that would have been anything other than business as usual for this time of year. Go pound sand.

pittdave, what certifications do you have?? Who do you fly for? How much time do you have.... total and actual? And have you ever flown in icing conditions? Just so all the pilots on here can have a full assessment of who you are.
seriously ... just close this thread ... please ... we're all having a hard enough time with this as is...
