I know of 2 that have bypassed recall.

One of the girls in scheduling told me that to get the initial recall they had 10 pilots bypass it.....so its at least that

The latest captain bid should allow me to bid back to DCA. I might even be willing to take DCA RSV and bid ready reserve each month.

At least I'll be out of ORF. That commute sucks.

BTW, my own whining here does not belittle the fact that we still have pilots on furlough and until they are all recalled, my own problems are trivial. Just to set the facts straight.

But I still want out of ORF!!

Were there something like 35 captain downgrades? I don't remember.

the capt spots may or may not be taken by those who were downgraded. i know there are 10 f.o.'s who are senior to me and i'm a capt. some passed up the upgrade last year, they may or may not choose that way again. either way, we'll see how it all shakes out on monday (hopefully). there should be alot of movement in the capt ranks as there has been zero movement since september.

If recalls continue to progress, will there be any hiring in the months to follow? I just would like to hear SOME good news for once :)

I wouldn't expect any hiring for a while. There are still pilots on furlough and downgraded captains. And almost zero attrition.

The reason for the recalls has been the steady increase in flight hours assigned to AWAC by US Airways. This is a summer increase and it is not known if that will continue into the fall and next winter.

The last thing anyone wants is to recall pilots and then re-furlough some of them.

Hate to rain on anyone's parade, but that's reality. The fact that there have been some recalls and now some re-upgrades is good news. But it's very, very slow.

The owners of AWAC want to purchase more aircraft (CRJ-700's or -900's) and expand the flying, but it's just not gonna happen when the economy is in the gutter and airlines are cutting back on their regional flying.

Just be patient, this isn't the first time there has been a widespread freeze on hiring of airline pilots.

I wish I could believe what you say about their desire to grow or get more airplanes.... I just haven't seen much evidence of this in the 5 years I have been here.

Hope you are right!

It's what we were told at the first recall RGS in Feb. They have -700 and -900 upgrade training programs ready to go once another airline goes tts up or we win an RFP.

Or maybe it was just the tasty Kool-aide? ;)
