It is actually the EU nations with which we need to tighten things up in this regard.

While it is true foreign citizens can work at US airlines as pilots, they have to get their immigration stuff squared away before they even apply for the job. In other words, unless you are in the US legally and eligible to work already for any job (with a few exceptions such as jobs requiring security clearances or Fed jobs), they can never work for a US airline. On the other hand, let's say a US citizen is trying to get a job at KAL. If employed, KAL will get a permit to work in Korea for the pilot. It comes down to 'what is the basis of your immigration/employment authorization status'.

All these big flight academies are a big reason for the problem. They import these foriegners by getting them visas and the permission to come here. It's how all these schools stay in business.

You gotta find out if those foreigners get green card eventually or not. If they don't no big deal. They can't move on and take the airline jobs. If they do get green card, well....

Um have you guys ever actually taken a look at how many american pilots are working in the middle east and in Asia.

Spare the oh my god we are so hard done by because someone who wasnt born in this country has a job as a pilot while some other americans are out of a job.

Where does it say that you have to be a Canadian citizen?

You guys can go up there and marry a Canadian girl, reside over there, and get the right to work in Canada. I don't see the issue. Quit being cry babies. The US doesn't give out visas for pilots to come work here at our airlines. You are either a citizen of the US, or a legal permanent resident of the US, to be able to obtain a permanent job over here.

Quit your whining. Air China isn't coming here and injecting their pilots into our regionals.
