Either way Mesaba "worked" with Delta to get it done, but doesn't necessarily mean the idea was their own.

Don't forget that once the merger happened, there was no longer such a thing as a NWA route. Delta wants decently efficient schedules as well, they'd prefer the airplanes to be flying revenue, not parked or ferried.

I would certainly hope that a regional airline's management would at least have some original thoughs and ideas regarding the operation of "their" airline. But, I am absolutely of the opinion that if Delta decides NOT to act on the ideas given by regional management, that they (DCI mgmt) has no choice but to go with what they're told to do.

Now if we're talking in house ops, policies and procedures..that's a different story. But in terms of "strategy", routes and fleet (barring contractual obligations) I think that's all under Delta's roof.

**Looking at what is being done at Comair, contractual fleet obligations also mean nothing, they'll find a way around it. :-\
I guess that was a heck of a mirage I saw on the CVG ramps then..... Between the DC-9's from DHL and all the Comair CRJ's the place is like the Marana, AZ of the East....

All of Comair's parked airplanes are lease returns or going off to other carriers....and as i said.."contractual fleet obligations mean nothing"...and i meant it.

Oh, and Comair has also been a wholly owned Delta sub. a lot longer than Mesaba has, maybe a crystal ball.. I sure hope not, but all i'm doing is warning.

But feel free to believe whatever ya'll want.

Andy,

First off, you are making too big of a deal by stating middle of the road hypotheticals on DCI relations and partnerships. I don't doubt that your time at Comair has less then stellar. However, your experiences do NOT allow you to dictate, with any relevance, DCI direction as if it were gospel on some other airline, or their employees, that you do not even work for or with.

You took the fact that Mesaba was granted options or opportunities that were available and completely misconstrued it as if I said Mesaba was dictorial towards DCI. We all know that is not how this relationship works so what was the point? I simply said that they did not want JFK. What do you care the reason as why they didn't want it? I didn't ask for the rationale or see the "game plan".

It could have been that the opportunity wasn't right, the reasoning didn't fit the current plan.....who knows? But for the love of God, please quit trying to fight every little thing, or making a mountain from a mole hill, that doesn't make sense TO YOU simply because you are not in the room when things are said and that makes you mad.

Sometimes you need to LISTEN too.

My last post on this topic. I'm happy that we are not in JFK as of now as it sounds like a lot of lost time and frustration.

Well put. DAL calls the shot but Mesaba does have a say in how to execute the plan ordered, just like field commanders in combat. I am more inclined to put weight on people who just returned from RGS than senior guys who are at the top at XJ who seem to have very little interest in what will happen in the next 6 to 12 months. This is like arguing whether Compass will get stapled at the bottom of the DAL seniority list. No one knows for sure and it is unlikely to happen.

Gentlemen, let's get back to the original topic of this thread which is Mesaba on the West Coast. I think the cat is out of the bag, and once it's out I don't think there is going back. DAL will use whatever regional they think will suit them best and make them money. As long as it makes business sense to utilize Mesaba to western routes, they will continue to do so.

I have an SFO turn in a couple weeks out of SLC. I quite enjoy making it all the way out to the left coast during a 4 day. It makes things go by so much quicker.

But these new cities like SFO are just quick turns and not overnights although BOI did turn into overnights.

Default Extended TOWOP

Anybody have any guesses as to if and when the company might offer an extended TOWOP, maybe 6 months or a year?

I was told by my union rep that the company and the union came to an agreement last Friday on extended TOWOP and half-time line. He didn’t haven any details on the agreement but he seemed pretty confident that the program will greatly help our overstaffed situation. I would think we will see information on this around the time they put out the TOWOP bid for June.

Seeing how few people have been taking the TOWOP so far do you think that making it an extended (multi month) one will make a difference? If you want people to take some time off then the bean counters need to slap EW and get the half time lines pushed through.
