Mesaba on the West Coast

I agree.. I was in RGS recently and I didn't take anything away from it other than there wasn't anything new happening.
It was reiterated to us that SLC was NOT a testing run, temporary step. Mesaba was, in fact, to have more in SLC because they did NOT want JFK, or the performance numbers that go with it, under any circumstance. Skywest said they wanted JFK and we ended up with 5 planes instead of 10 in SLC (the remaining 5 in ATL) because of the current contract with Skywest / ASA.
Nothing more, nothing less.

That implies that mesaba has a say in all of this...which I think is doubtful.

Just flew with a LCA and he said they are going to start riding jumpseat to do unofficial proficiency checks to make sure everyone is flying the profiles and flying by the book. Standardization checks is probably a better word for it. That's one way to make sure everyone is flying by the book and also one way to keep the LCA guys busy! He didn't make that info up.

Made some calls today.....
1. Sounds like there is a meeting of the minds today and they will be making a decision on the half-time lines and extended TOWOP. The union thinks that if the company goes along with these ideas we would then only be 50 pilots fat.
2. There was talk about a furlough without a displacement but I guess after the company looked at it more they could only furlough 35 before the need for a displacement.
3. The problem is that JS has been told our block hours will be cut in Sept sounds like it is a pretty big cut in hours. JS didn't know how large the cut would be but he has been told that there would be a cut.
So from what I was told today it seems like the company is looking at all the factors for the next few months and will be making a decision next week. Do we do the half-time lines and extended TOWOP to keep as many pilots on as long as possible with the hopes that delta rewards us with more flying come Sept. Or do we get the displacement/furlough over right now take the hit and bump up all the line credits minimize the reserves on staff.
Whatever happens I have to give the Union at XJ credit they have been very
proactive with all of this. They are trying all they can to keep as many pilots on at XJ as possible. If I was a hat wearing pilot my hat would be off to the union at XJ.

A few points of my own:
1.Agreed, and I am a hat wearing pilot. Lets keep in mind that we are one of the few regionals that hasn't furloughed.
2.
It doesn't really make sense to issue all XJ pilots new uniforms because A) Daddy Delta would have to pay for them... just like they did for NW pilots... B) Very few passengers notice that they are flying on 3 different airlines between Seattle and Memphis much less that there are different uniform colors/arrangements C) finally, lets face it it is not a necessary cost for your regional to match your mainline, even for an image conscious company like daddy delta.
3. Agreed. A) Farva is the only one saying this. B) How often did you hear "We're getting 50 more '900's" out of someone who went to RGS sometime last year? (The point is its still the same cool-aid... even if it was fed to you in a class room by a guy in a tie)
4.
The Big Announcement will come this Monday? (Remember when we did this towards the end of last summer and every week "the big announcement" got pushed back another week? How about we stick with the facts this time around?)
5. Go Check CrewWeb... You can still log in? Congratulations! You have a job!
Now go have a beer or two or twenty-three, and worry about where you're going to get your dog, fluffy, groomed instead. (12 hour rule permitting, of course) Cheers!

Well I am not trying be negative, sorry if that offended some of you but that is not my intent. The Union and JR threw the F word around a few times and the meetings certainly werent sunshine and roses. I know I am new and toward the back end of the list but ,by saying that I am new guy means I dont understand things? The economy is in the crapper and by the time any airline starts to increase there flying we will be well into a economic recovery in fact we could be into the next high point. I mean up until a few months ago we were all getting new destinations and new aircraft all the while we were in a start or middle of a recession. Now the airlines are cuttting back because times are rough and while I am thankful to have a job to somewhat support my family, I am how ever not blind sided by the fact that people dont have money to fly around right now and people are getting laid off from there jobs and are not able to find sustainable work. That equates at least in my book and maybe that is where the problem is, that demand for flying has dramatically decreased. I dont drink the cool-aid however I am realistic and I try to stay optomistic but its hard when you are worrying about what is gonna happen to your wife and two young kids if you get furloughed.Flame away at me if you must but all it does is create more animosity between senior and junior XJ pilots. If you want us junior guys to fall more in line with you senior guys then let us see things from your point of view without a giant attitude and you will find that we are more receptive. To those that just continue to act like a bunch of jackasses , well do whatever you feel is necessary.

P.S. I am sure i am gonna get more crap for this.

Farva dude... take it easy. We're not saying that you don't have a right to be worried... or that we want you and your family to have to go through a furlough.
The more senior guys have been through a lot more... so they have seen it before, and know much better than us junior guys when to start worrying. As long as their not worried... you shouldn't be either.
All we're saying is that maybe its not time to think gloom and doom just yet. If theres gonna be a furlough then we all have to deal with it... but until you get a call from a CP its useless to worry yourself to the point of going crazy...

Just cause they haven't been, doesn't mean they wont. Comair is pretty much leaving CVG..who ever saw that coming..do you think Comair had a say in that?..or that Delta gives a royal brown crud if Comair hoots and hollers in protest?
Get real buddy.
