Yes I do. For those who aren't willing to spare a dollar for the van driver out of shear cheapness....just stop.

For the cheap tools who don't tip... no, you're not paying them extra just to do their job, their compensation is based on the assumption that they'll get tips (if they don't suck).

That said, no tip if they're late or don't load the bags... that's part of the job, so if only do part of the job they only get part of the pay. Doesn't bother me, I'm happy to load my own bags and keep the $2.
The cleaning personnel who spend a lot more time on you specifically make less than the van drivers. Do you tip them?

Therein lies the brake-down in logic of tipping in this country. We tip the hotel van driver, so do we tip the bus driver from the parking lot at the airport? Do we tip the maids? Do we tip the barista at the coffee place? Do we tip the teachers of our children? Do we tip flight attendants? Etc., etc., etc.

With any of these “service” jobs one can argue there’s a lack of standard of pay that can be “assumed” to be rightfully compensated by adding tips, but it’s not standard. So, where is the line drawn?

My burning question is should I tip the police officer who pulls me over and gives me a speeding ticket? After all he or she is a service employee.

Agreed.

The only reason I tip the van driver is due to the fact that he goes "over and above" by loading bags. This is why I do not tip the employee bus driver or the guy who drives us from the hotel to the training center ...

The hotel housekeepers deserve a far bigger tip, IMHO.

Default Tip van drivers ? Heck ya

Theses guys make nothing ,the tip is for a safe drive and grabbing our heavy ass bags . They live on tips , a different job than you ,First officers usually tip a buck or two depending how far the ride is , local airport hotel a buck. I tip 2-3 , holidays Christmas I’ll give him $5. Grabbing those bags of your take there toll on their bodies also.
If it’s not a safe ride or damage your bags that’s different . If you really cannot afford it (really) then don’t or if your just being really really cheap well you have to live with your self.

I honestly don’t see the need to tip, they’re just driving you a few minutes and sometimes they don’t even pick up the bags since many are women. It’s got to be the easiest laidback job. People tip because they feel pressured to. That’s not a good reason. There’s so many jobs that make crap money that dont get tips. The only time I tip really is when they take you somewhere other than the airport. I feel like they’re actually serving you there. But the hotel route is their job.

If you have already gotten the ticket, it’s too late for a tip to do any good.
