XJT does a ridiculous amount of flights that shouldn't be an RJ:
EWR-OKC, EWR-TUL, EWR-NAS, EWR-MCI, EWR-LIT, EWR-XNA, EWR-STL, EWR-MSY, CLE-NAS, CLE-MIA, CLE-PBI, CLE-MCO, CLE-TPA, IAH-NAS, IAH-PIT, IAH-SLC, IAH-ABQ, IAH-PHX, IAH-TUS, IAH-YYZ, IAH-BOI (now removed), IAH-PSP, IAH-MEX, IAH-PVR, IAH-SJD, IAH-ACA, IAH-HUX, IAH-CME, IAH-RIC, IAH-DCA, IAH-ORD, IAH-MCO, IAH-RSW.....They even used to do IAH-GUA. Am I forgetting any? Its always funny when I talk to mainline guys and they tell me how sweet the schedules and overnights will get once we're at a major and get away from these "regional" schedules. You tell me whats regional about a 25 hour commutable 4 day with overnights in Boston, Cabo, and PHX. Boston the hotel is right downtown next to everything, Cabo is an all inclusive resort in the beach, and PHX is also downtown close to a lot. Yeah, these "regional" schedules are for the birds... Mmmmm...beans and swine flu. PHX toilets beware. I remember doing LA-Veracruz turns during the DC days 2 summers ago. Routinely over 8 hours...FAA wasn't too happy about that. |
LGA XNA in the ERJ135.... If we needed to alt's we'd have to stop in BNA for fuel.

I know people always give us XJT guys grief for it (as if it's OUR choice) but I am doing IAH-YYZ tommorow. Seems like that should be a mainline route just based on the distance and the fact that its the 4th largest US city and largest Canadian city. But Air Canada flies the route (and YUL-IAH, YYC-IAH) with Jazz CRJ-700s and the occasional E170 so there must not be as much demand there as you'd think.

Yeah, these "regional" schedules are for the birds... It's not about the distance, it's about the size of cities you are flying to. Flying an EMB-145 from IAH-ORD and DFW does not make sense. Why? ORD and DFW are major airports in large metropolitan areas. However, a 737 would never fill to RIC, ORF, GSP. The distance is too far for a turboprop. That, in my opinion, is the niche market for the RJ----> A semi-long flight (1.5-2.5 hours) to a city with capacity too small for a 737/A320. These ridiculous IAH-BPT/CLL/CRP could go either way between a turboprop or RJ. I prefer to ride on an RJ as a passenger and prefer to fly one as a pilot :) |

The RJ was made for routes like EWR-TUL, EWR-XNA, IAH-TUS, IAH-PSP, IAH-CME, IAH-RIC/ORF/GSP/SAV/AVL..you get the point.

Don't waste your breathe people here want a 757 on those routes no matter if it is filled or not.

Are you joking... I'd rather be on either an A320 or a B767. The worst plane as a passenger is the 753... Followed closely by the 752.
